Winter Morning Blessing

May the longest night ahead
be gentle and warm.
May the frost on the morning window
remind you of stillness,
each pattern a quiet prayer and
winter’s soul art.
May the pale sun rise gently,
warming your spirit despite the cold.
May this day unfold with kindness
and a spark of wonder in your heart.
May the crisp air awaken clarity,
each breath a gift of renewal.
May the snow beneath your feet
teach you the rhythm of patience.
May your path today be welcoming,
lit by joy and inner light.

This year the Diwali spiritual and cultural festival began on October 17 and will go on for six nights of celebration through October 22. Diwali or Dipavali (meaning theLine of Lights) is the Festival of Lights celebrated by those who follow India’s Hindu/Vedic, Jain, and Sikh cultural traditions.

Diwali celebrates the victory of dharma over adharma, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. In a few areas and sects within Vedic culture, the festival of Diwali signifies the start of a new year. The most important days of the festival are Dhanteras (today, October 18), and Diwali itself (the Lakshmi Puja), on October 20.

Dhanteras is always celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna paksha (the dark fortnight) in either October or November.

On Dhanteras, devotees propitiate Lakshmi Devi and Lord Kubera for wealth and prosperity. The god of Ayurveda, Dhanvantari, is also worshiped on Dhanteras. Dhanvantari is an avatar of Lord Vishnu and the Vedic god of health, healing, and Ayurvedic medicine, also known as Ayurveda. Known as the Science of Life, Ayurveda was given to humanity to help alleviate suffering from disease.
