"Another aspect of emotional pain inherent in the mind and the ego is the deep-seated feeling of being incomplete, of not being whole.
In some people it is conscious, in others it is not.
If conscious, it manifests as the disturbing and permanent feeling of being insignificant or not good enough. If it is unconscious, it will only be felt indirectly, as an intense thirst, desire and need.
Either way, people often go on a binge of ego gratification and yearn to acquire things they identify with so they can fill that hole they feel inside of them. So they run after goods, money, juice. cession, power, recognition or special relationship.
Ciale to feel better, to be more complete. But even when they have obtained all this, they quickly discover that the hole is still there, that it is bottomless.
So they are really in trouble, because they can no longer delude themselves. In fact, they can and do, but it gets harder.
As long as the mind or the ego rules your life, you cannot really feel comfortable, peaceful or fulfilled except for brief intervals when you have gotten what you wanted or just a craving. will have been satisfied. Since the ego is in itself a secondary identity, it seeks to identify itself with external objects. He has a constant need to be defended and nourished.
The things he most commonly identifies with are material possessions, social status, social recognition, knowledge and education, physical appearance, special abilities, relationships, personal and family history, belief systems and often also forms of collective identification, whether political, nationalistic, racial, religious or otherwise. You are none of that. Does this scare you? Or do you feel relieved to hear it? All this you will have to give up sooner or later. You may find it hard to believe, and I'm certainly not asking you to think that you can't find your identity in either of these things. You yourself will know the truth through experience. At the latest, you will know it when you feel death approaching. Death strips you of everything that is not you.
The secret of life is to "die before you die" and to discover that death does not exist."
