Talking about timing when posting this new podcast episode.

We talked about this yesterday with the students who joined the Yoga & Massage class at , what really stops us from practicing?

I’ll share more about that later, but for now it felt like such an important reminder… it’s often not about time, or motivation, or even knowing what to do.

In today’s episode, I take you back to something very simple, something you already know, & how to actually use it so your practice can support you in your real life, even in those five minute moments.

~Thoughts from the mat~

On Sunday, after the morning flow, one of the students asked me if she could have it.

& I get it.

Because when something shifts in your body, when something feels right, you want to keep it, to come back to it, to repeat it, to hold onto that feeling & find it again later.

But what you experienced… was not the sequence.

Because the same sequence, written on paper, could be taught in many different ways & lead to completely different experiences in the body.

What makes the practice work is not the order of the poses.

It is why they are there, how they are connected, the pace, the space in between, & the cues that bring you back into your body, again & again, so you are not just doing something, but actually feeling what is happening.

In my classes, you are not here to follow.

You are here to notice, to adjust, to choose what feels right for you.

And that is why the same practice can feel completely different from one day to the next.

Because you are different.

Because what you need changes.

That cannot be captured in a list of poses.

When you want to take home what you experience in class, to come back to that feeling & explore it again in your own time, that is exactly why the Life Lab exists.

Take a moment to slow down, breathe, and simply be… surrounded by cats 🐾

On May 2nd at 9am, I’ll be guiding a gentle breathwork and meditation session inside the cat palace at the Animal Shelter Bonaire.

This is a calm and intimate moment, both for you and for the animals. A space where there is no pressure to do anything, just an invitation to arrive, to soften, and to reconnect with your breath.

And around you… cats moving freely, resting, observing, maybe coming to sit next to you. Just sharing the space as we are.

This session is beginner friendly and open to anyone who feels the need to slow down, regulate the nervous system, and take a break from the constant doing.

We are also here to support something much bigger.

Animal Shelter Bonaire has been caring for animals in need since 1983, offering shelter, medical care, and working on long term solutions through education and sterilisation.

Part of the donations will support the TNR program (Trap, Neuter, Release), led on Bonaire by and the Traveling Animal Doctor.

This program plays a key role in reducing the stray cat population in a humane and sustainable way, while improving the health and lives of the cats on the island.

𝐵𝑦 𝑗𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔, 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑙𝑦 𝑠𝑢𝑝𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔:

This week’s Yoga schedule is here 🧡

If you’ve been thinking about coming to a class, take this as your little nudge.

I don’t teach Yoga as something you come & try to get right, or something where you have to keep up with what everyone else is doing in the room, because that’s usually where people disconnect from their body instead of actually listening to it.

What I want for you in class is to start paying attention to what’s really going on, to notice what your body needs on that day, in that moment, & to feel confident enough to respond to that, even if it looks completely different from the person next to you.

Because the moment you start doing that on the mat, you’ll start doing it in your life as well, & that’s where things actually shift.

That’s also why even in a group setting, you’re not treated like a group, there is always space to adjust, to slow things down, to take something out, or to go a bit deeper when it feels right for you.

✨ Pregnancy Yoga on Monday evening is really there to support you through all the changes happening in your body, while also creating space, physically & mentally, for you & your baby, so you can slow down, breathe, & feel supported without having to push or figure everything out.

🐾 And on Saturday May 2nd, we’re doing something a little different with a Breathwork & Meditation session at the Cat Palace, a quiet moment to slow down, breathe & just be, while also supporting the cats of Bonaire. This is a fundraising event, all donations will go to the & the stray cats project (TNR) hosted by

Let’s talk about this for a minute.

This is not always something we notice right away.

When you are in a class, it is very easy to just move along, to stay with the rhythm, to do what comes next without really questioning it.

And there is nothing wrong with that, but at the same time, it can take you away from what is actually happening in your body.

From what you might need in that moment, which is not always the same as what is being shown or suggested.

So the next time you join a class, this is my invitation for you to notice & adapt to what YOU need today.

Today I did something I've never done in my life: I booked a plane ticket less than 6h before flying!

I have the insane opportunity to join on a scientific mission to follow humpback whales 🐋 in Dominican Republic for the .

But I'm also so lucky to have an amazing team of teachers to take over my classes.

~ Thoughts from the mat ~

This morning as I settle into a short practice before going to teach, there is no fancy surroundings, not my favorite spot in the garden or my dog on the mat.

There is a raw practice, overlooking my recovering cat, just doing what I can.

January on the mat with me was about calming the nervous system, welcoming the challenges from a place of quiet, resisting this pressure of doing.

February is now all about listening inward.

So this morning I didn't choose the most difficult option in the poses. I didn't push myself.

Instead I added support, noticing what is doable.

This week is about being comfortable with doing the bare minimum. Because sometimes that's all you have inside you & that's completely fine.

This is my invitation to use your practice to notice & choose, instead of always pushing yourself. That's the balance we practice & that's what I'm talking about in the next podcast episode of Yoga that Works.

~Thoughts from the mat~

How much are you REALLY listening to your body?

As I finish to teach another Monday evening class, something strikes me again. Are my students coming up in a seated position at the end of the class because I've guided them there, because they see others doing it or because it is REALLY what they need right now?

The pressure to follow & do like others in a Yoga class is not unknown. But how much are we actually aware of it?

If it happens on the mat, it happens in life. Social pressure, following, doing because "that's how we do it".
I spent my entire life questioning this. So that's no surprise I bring these questions to the mat as well, in my own practice but also in my teaching.

Here is what I bring to the mat, hoping this will reach my students:
"Do what feels good for you now"
"No rush to do anything"
"Allow yourself to be weird"

Because the best moments I've seen in classes is when each of my students are doing something different. Then I KNOW...they are listening to themselves.
And this feels like the biggest win for me as a teacher.
