🌀 INTRO TO ASHTANGA workshop w/
🌀 Saturday 25th April - 16h-18h30
🌀 All welcome

More info —> 🔗 in bio

Some people consider Ashtanga to be very strict. Others find it too restrictive. Many are a little bit intimidated by the practice (and honestly, sometimes, same).

I find Ashtanga a great tool for introspection. It can be a fun physical challenge, a means of developing discipline and agency, and has proved itself time and time again to be a great lesson in ‘trusting the process’.

In short, I 💚 Ashtanga

If you’re curious to learn more about this style of yoga, particularly from a point of view which seeks to dismantle the dogmatic, gate-kept system and embrace a more inclusive approach to the practice, then what are you doing Saturday 25th April?

I remember growing up one of Dad’s go to sayings was ‘too bright too early’ speaking of if the sun was super bright first thing in the morning it wouldn’t last the day. It holds true every time, and I’m reminded of this saying as we move through the Spring Equinox.

In Irish folklore and generally Celtic culture, the Spring equinox is considered the balance between the winter and the summer, the dark and the light. We’re waking from hibernation, but not yet in full motion.

The Spring equinox carries a sense of quiet authority for this balancing, it doesn’t announce itself with the haste and heat of harvest, nor the intensity of winter’s darkness. It presents a measured power, where the days and nights, light and darkness, are even, and with this evenness a certain power is upheld. It helps remind us that progress and change doesn’t happen all at once, it takes time and steadiness. Just because we have crossed over into brighter, warmer days doesn’t mean we have to hit the ground running. On the contrary, anything that arrives with a surge or force tends not to last, and rather progress becomes reliable when borne from steadiness rather than strain.

For those who are curious, it took 2hrs 45mins for 108 salutations, my hips and hamstrings were not readyđŸ« đŸ„Č

Little bits I’ve been struggling with recently:
- being consistent with learning German đŸ«
- finding time to plan for classes, workshops, retreats in the pipeline
- finding inspo for planning classes, workshops, retreats in the pipeline
- balancing being soft with myself with being efficient and getting things done
- figuring out what I want this tiny corner of the internet to look like so as to be of service rather than feeding the Instagram machine
- smooth AF jump through to bhujapidasana

Things that have helped:
- colouring
- going for cycles
- being consistent with my movement practice
- pranayama
- playing with handstands and being upside downđŸ€ž

‱2025‱

Raise your hand if you feel you’ve been personally victimized by 2025🙋
This past year was a year of placing full trust in the process, trusting the highs, the lows, the pain, the joy, the grief, the elation, trusting that it’s all part of what the Universe has woven in her plan for youđŸ”źâœšâ˜ïž

I wouldn’t swap this year’s experiences for anything, but I am so happy to say ‘ciao ✌’ and send 2025 on its merry way.

Some moments from the past 12 months, where softness was embraced, stillness a priority and solitude star of the show☁đŸȘ

12 Asanas of Christmas 🎄
Day 8: Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana

Next in the standing series, the first of the 2 balancing postures. Let’s not beat about the bush, this one is not easy, but it is so much fun to say!

Inhale lengthen, take the foot, exhale forward fold 5 breaths, inhale back to standing, exhale open the foot to the side 5 breaths, inhale back to centre, exhale fold, inhale back to standing, exhale both hands on hips, extend top leg straight 5 breaths, exhale releeeeeease😼‍💹

Key to this asana is to forget straightening the lifted leg before getting the standing leg grounded - once you find grounding through the balancing leg the breath and energy will flow and then the lifted leg, well that’s between you and your hamstrings 🙃 modification: take the knee instead of the foot while balancing ✌
