Chatfield Genealogy Chatfield Worldwide genealogy The Chatfield name was first recorded in or about after1446 in Sussex, England. In 1638 three brothers from Sussex went to America.

However the name in various forms was seen in the 13th century but there is no proof of connection. Two branches of the name exist in England, one mainly centered around Sussex and the counties of the south of England and the other around the Midlands, specifically Staffordshire. No connection between the two groups has been found. in the 1780's the first Chatfield's went to Australia - not by free choice! from then on they went to New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, India and more recently Europe other than the UK.

Many connections made and sadly some errors on the State GRO records.

Our Story

The Chatfield name was first recorded in the 13th century and family descendant history from about 1446 in Sussex, England. However the name in various forms was seen earlier but there is no proof of connection. Two branches of the name exist in England, one mainly centered around Sussex and the counties of the south of England and the other around the Midlands, specifically Staffordshire. No connection between the two groups has been found. In 1638 three brothers from Sussex went to America. In the 1780's the first Chatfields went to Australia - not by free choice but as transported convicts! From then on Chatfields went to New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, India and more recently Europe other than the UK.
