What an amazing day! I flew down to London for The Contained Clinician 's New Year social. Brilliant to get away from the Aberdeenshire snow for a few days!
Amazing to meet Aisha in person after being managed by her for almost a year, and also meeting 21 other like minded therapists. Feeling very proud of the work that therapists do on a daily basis and excited for the future of my business. Here's to 2026! 🥂🍾

Saw this on a friends page - what are your ways of practicing self care and looking after yourself??
💜🩵💜🩵💜🩵💜🩵💜🩵💜

We’re heading into the darkest days of winter - it’s important to self care, even if that’s just getting one thing done in a day.

DEPRESSION TIPS:
Shower. Not a bath, a shower.
Use water as hot or cold as you like. You don’t even need to wash. Just get in under the water and let it run over you for a while. Sit on the floor if you gotta.

Moisturize everything.
Use whatever lotion you like.
Unscented? Cheap lotion? Fancy 48 hour lotion that makes you smell like a field of wildflowers? Use whatever you want, and use it all over your entire dermis.

Put on clean, comfortable clothes.
Put on your favorite underwear.
Those ridiculous boxers you bought last christmas with candy cane hearts on the butt? Put them on.

Drink cold water.
Use ice. If you want, add some mint or lemon for an extra boost.

Clean something.
Doesn’t have to be anything big. Organize one drawer of a desk. Wash five dirty dishes. Do a load of laundry. Scrub the bathroom sink.

Blast music.
Listen to something upbeat and dancey and loud, something that’s got lots of energy. Sing to it, dance to it, even if you suck at both.

Make food.
Don’t just grab a granola bar to munch. Take the time and make food. Even if it’s ramen. Add something special to it, like a soft boiled egg or some veggies. Prepare food, it tastes way better, and you’ll feel like you accomplished something.

Make something.
Write a short story or a poem, draw a picture, color a picture, fold origami, crochet or knit, sculpt something out of clay, anything artistic. Even if you don’t think you’re good at it. Create.

Go outside.
Take a walk. Bundle up if you have too. Listen to whatever birds there are, watch the squirrels, admire whatever lights are in the trees. Go to the letterbox, send a letter, a bill, a card.

Call someone.
Call a loved one, a friend, a family member, call a chat service if you have no one else to call. Talk to a stranger on the street. Have a conversation and listen to someone’s voice. If you can’t bring yourself to call, text or email or whatever, just have some social interaction with another person. Even if you don’t say much, listen to them. It helps.

Cuddle your pets if you have them/can cuddle them.
Take pictures of them. Talk to them. Tell them how you feel, about your favorite movie, a new game coming out, anything.

May seem small or silly to some, but this list keeps people alive.

*** At your absolute best you won’t be good enough for the wrong people. But at your worst, you’ll still be worth it to the right ones. Remember that. Keep holding on.
*** In case nobody has told you today - I love you and you are worth your weight and then some in gold, so be kind to yourself and most of all keep pushing on!!!

Find something to be grateful for!

As we are all starting to emerge from the festive season, I like to think of the hope for the year to come for myself, but also the people I come into contact with both personally and professionally.

For me, this year doesn’t need another resolution—it needs ongoing intention. It needs manageable, evolving goals that feel like you are bettering yourself and your life.

If you want better focus, healthier relationships, or more emotional balance, talking it through can help.

Support is a tool, not a crutch. Reaching out shows strength. You have the ability to take control of how you feel, and understand yourself better for stronger resilience to whatever life throws at you.

If last year drained you—mentally, emotionally, or relationally—this is your moment to reset.

Make this the year you stop carrying everything on your own.

Book your free initial chat now. Your future self will thank you.

The festive season can be joyful, but it can also feel overwhelming or lonely for many. 💛 As we are in that tricky time in between Christmas and New Year, let’s normalise rest, boundaries, and prioritising mental health. 🌿

Please remember: you don’t have to carry everything alone. Be gentle with yourself and reach out for support if things feel heavy.

If you’re ready for support, I currently have space for new clients for therapy.
Please send a message to arrange a free chat to see if we would be a good fit.

Tapestry

Looking back,
Watching the threads grow in strength and colour,
New textures and tensions,
Weaving together,
A blanket of ideas holding up new ways of being-
Testing, stretching, folding and unfurling.
Sharing, responding, noticing a look, a clenched fist-
A scene comes into focus and a new stitch is added
to this tapestry.

This week our Counselling Skills Certificate students compelted Module 2! They reflected on their learning during the module, their personal growth and development, and shared this in presentations to the whole group. One student wrote a poem, and kindly agreed to us sharing it here.

It is bitter sweet having a planned ending with a client. I genuinely get attached to my clients and I will miss them, but I am so happy when we decide to end the therapeutic relationship as they have achieved what they set out to. In the ending I always welcome both positive and negative experiences of working with me; what went well and what they wish had gone differently.
Lovely to receive this feedback 💜

I send an anonymous feedback form to all ending clients, and it is their choice if I can use their feedback on my social media.

🌈 Working with trans and gender-diverse clients

I’ve had the privilege of sitting with people as they explore who they are — sometimes for the first time in a space that truly feels safe. It’s powerful, brave, and deeply human.

Therapy with trans and gender-diverse clients is about creating a space where every part of you is welcome. Where your identity isn’t questioned, it’s honored. 💛

Sometimes we talk about identity and transition. Sometimes we talk about family, anxiety, joy, or just… life. Because trans folks deserve the same care, curiosity, and compassion anyone else does — without fear of judgment or having to educate their therapist.

If you’re trans, questioning, or exploring your gender: you deserve affirming care that celebrates who you are, exactly as you are. You don’t have to shrink or explain yourself to be understood. 🌿

I see you. You belong. 🏳️‍⚧️💜

Saw this on one of the therapist pages I am on.

I wouldn't say I 'want' to hear them, but I welcome any and all of the feelings that my clients are having. I would rather have the space where we can make sense of the feelings together, or to know any changes i can make to improve your experience in therapy. I am always open to any feedback, especially the parts that feel hard to voice. This could be where the work is!

💬💙 Accessible Online Therapy/Counselling for Hard of Hearing Clients

If you’re hard of hearing and have been thinking about starting therapy, I want you to know — you’re welcome here.

In my online sessions, I make sure communication feels clear, comfortable, and accessible. That can include:
🖥️ Captions during video calls
👂 Checking in regularly to make sure the setup works for you

I welcome feedback from my clients, and through working with D/deaf clients, I have found that sessions on Google Meet give the best closed captions in real time.

I am passionate about making my counselling (online) room accessible for anyone who would like to access support, and welcome any suggestions/adaptations that I can make. I don't currently offer sign language counselling, but I would be interested in making this happen in the future.

You deserve a space where you can express yourself fully — without having to worry about missing important details or struggling to follow along.

Therapy should be about you — your pace, your comfort, your goals. Accessibility isn’t an afterthought; it’s part of building a trusting, supportive relationship.

If you’re looking for an inclusive, flexible space to explore your thoughts and emotions, I’d love to connect. 🌿

🌿Daytime Online Therapy/Counselling Sessions 🌿
I currently have space for new clients during the day on week days.

If you’ve been thinking about starting therapy — or returning to it — this might be the gentle nudge you’ve been waiting for. 💛

I currently have daytime openings for online sessions, perfect for those who:
✨ Work from home and can take a midday break
✨ Prefer a late morning session (from 10am) before the day gets busy
✨ Are stay-at-home parents or caregivers
✨ Simply find daytime therapy more grounding and flexible

Online therapy offers the same depth and connection as in-person work — just from the comfort and privacy of your own space. 🌼

If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or ready for change, this is a great time to reach out.
You can message me here or visit my website (lkccounselling.co.uk) to learn more and book a session.

I offer a free 30 minute chat to find out if we both feel we would be a good fit for working together.
I charge £60 per therapeutic hour (50minutes), and can offer flexibility around how often sessions take place. I recommend starting weekly, but after a mutual discussion, this can be reduced to fortnightly, or monthly.

I also offer 2 reduced cost spaces, but these are both currently full. Please get in touch if you would like to be added to my waiting list for the low cost spaces.

Your time, your pace, your space. 🕊️

💚 Working with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)

One of the most meaningful parts of my work is supporting people who live with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)/ Emotional Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD). So often, individuals with BPD come into therapy carrying not just emotional pain, but also years of being misunderstood or judged.

I personally have this diagnosis myself, and I have worked hard in my own personal therapy, self discovery, and further training, that I am now in a place to support others with the condition. I don't know your experience, but I can deeply empathise because of my own journey. It has become my passion to support people living with BPD because of my own lived experience.

Here’s what I want them — and anyone reading this — to know:
You are not broken.
You feel deeply. You care fiercely. You love intensely.
Those qualities can bring pain, yes… but they’re also a reflection of your capacity for connection and growth. 🌿

With the right support, healing is absolutely possible. I’ve seen people learn to regulate emotions, build healthier relationships, and find peace with themselves. It takes time and compassion — from both myself and client — but the change is real.

If you’re living with BPD, please know this: you are not “too much.” You are worthy of love, safety, and calm. 💚

Contact me if you would like to know more.

I have noticed recently the days are becoming a bit chillier and the leaves have started to change colour. Think we are definitely getting closer to Autumn, and I thought it was time for a wee bit of an update.
🍂🍂🍂
Both group and individual supervision work continues to be interesting and rewarding.

I do currently have space for new supervisees, so if you are a trainee or qualified counsellor/psychotherapist, please reach out!
If you are looking for a group supervisor to run an established group, I would also be available.
🍂🍂🍂
Tutoring on the COSCA Counselling Course is going really well. We are just about to finish Module 1 with the first assignment due to be handed in this week. I am excited to read their submissions and to watch their presentations in the next couple of weeks!
🍂🍂🍂
My client work continues to be my passion and privilege with each session. I am currently full in the evenings for new clients, however I do have space during the day.

If you have weekday, daytime availability and feel that this new season is the time to start prioritising yourself, please get in touch!
I provide a free, no commitment 30 minute consultation, where we can both decide if we feel we would be a good fit for working together.
I work with many different clients with many different issues that are affecting them, and happy to have a chat to see we both feel I can help.
