Note to self. Do not agree to go to 2 conferences in one week. It’s exhausting. Specially before another busy and important week.

But how could I refuse?

I absolutely loved being a part of The British Psychological Society postgrad conference week ago. So much valuable research. So many interesting conversations. And absolutely fantastic oreeentations.

The keynote speakers Paul Gardner and Dr Katrina Forbes-McKay were brilliant. And well done to all the winners of the best poster, abstract and presentation.

I was lucky to be a symposia chair with my symposia dedicated to Social justice and sustainability. Some unbelievable, deep research and discussions.

Great to meet Karen Twiselton in person as well as have a great discussion about the BPS and future Hub events in Scotland in the future with chair Yana Yaneva.

(a bit long one but also an important one)
Living through history. What is it like? At the JCI Scotland conference this weekend i had an interesting conversation about it with one of the participants.

Living through history is not only about witnessing moments described in textbooks. It is about living through transformative challenges that shape both individuals and nations.

Since my teens I have felt that I was constantly witnessing history. Collapse of the Soviet Union. Independence (filled with moments of hope mixed with uncertainty). The war in my country. Nearly a million refugees and internally displaced people. The country on the brink of civil war.

These events tested our resilience, unity, capacity to fight for better life, survive and later thrive.

This weekend is particularly sensitive as it marks 5 years of military activities restored country’s sovereignty and brought hope and renewal after years of hardship.

True leadership and perseverance emerged from those difficult years.

Inspiring leaders united the nation, confronted immense challenges, kept hope alive even in the darkest times.

These people showed us that true leadership is about making courageous decisions in the storm.
They inspired resilience, fostered unity, built a future rooted in hope and strength and guided by values

The weekend is serving as a special reflection, commemorating those who gave their lives to restore the fractured country, those who showed leadership, those who led and those who supported, it was particularly important.

In honoring the courage and sacrifice of those who shaped our nation, this Olympic torch (kindly shared by Ben Carron) felt like a symbol. The symbol of the light that guides us through challenges.

What I though in the moment was:

I want to adapt the Olympic motto ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger.’ to my own motto of someone who lived history: ‘Rise, Progress, Thrive’.

Living through history is not only about witnessing the past.

It’s about carrying its lessons into our daily lives.

It’s about resilience, leadership, the constant effort to rise, progress and thrive.

It’s a reminder that history is alive within us, shaped by those who lead with courage and those who support with strength.

As we reflect on these moments and honour those who paved the way, I hope we all can find inspiration to live fully, lead impactfully and build a future rooted in hope and perseverance.

Such an intense week! Just back from The British Psychological Society postgrad conference and I’m preparing to head to JCI Scotland conference in Aberdeen this weekend, where I’m going to speak about everything imposter syndrome.

With the conference theme ‘Purpose is Power’, I’m thrilled to introduce my PURPOSE framework for understanding and navigating imposter syndrome.

It’s all about how gaining insight, developing belonging and creating psychological safety at work. All of that can bring us closer to our true purpose and help us claim our power and empower others

Can’t wait to share this with the incredible community and keep the conversation going about how we all deserve to flourish without fear or doubt holding us back.

A great lineup of speakers and panelist’s too!

So, I’m learning about AI. It’s fun. It’s also scary.

It used to be scarier (imagine the life where 1984 and Terminator collided!😱).

But the more I learn, the more I can see its potential to support us in everyday life.

One thing I’ll say very clearly: please don’t use AI as a substitute for therapy. That’s too dangerous. But for learning concepts, exploring research, gathering references? Brilliant.

And on the lighter side, the most fascinating part of my week was seeing what my friends at Phake Media have created from just one image.

Here’s just one thing created using just one image and I couldn’t believe it. Of course, this isn’t my real voice. I want to be clear about that! I’m only sharing because it’s just too much fun not to.

Just look how realistic this is! Do you find it funny or scary?

I was a keynote speaker at the last year’s British Psychological Society conference. Heading to this year’s conference and I’m so excited. People, research, discussions! Can’t wait.

A recent conversation with a client prompted me to look back at my own values. Yes, every conversation with a client sparks personal reflections. That’s the beauty of the work I do.

It took me a long time to understand what truly matters to me. Over time, I identified what I call a personal compass. It’s a set of core values I try to align with in every decision I make, specially if the decision is a difficult one.

This journey hasn’t been straightforward. It still isn’t. There are still hiccups along the way. Mistakes happen. They require me to realign myself.

But each step of reflection brings greater clarity about what grounds me and guides me forward.

Now I see values as living guides. They make me pause and check in with myself. The main question I ask is this: am I moving toward something meaningful or just reacting to something?

These reflections don’t offer clear answers. But they help to develop a deeper self-awareness. And of course, help to take decisions that help to live with intention.

If you had has recent reflection, what have you uncovered about your own compass?

Not many selfies but this was a great event. Well done to Enterprising Aberdeenshire for organising such a warm event at Broadstraik Inn.

It’s been a while since I attended a networking event so this one felt good. Walking into the room with people I already know and meeting new ones was a great treat yesterday.

A few people mentioned how working alone from home can be a lonely, isolating experience. These events are great as they connect and support people.

Looking forward to future events.

Is that you?’ I was asked yesterday. Then this was shared with me

The question came from someone who knows me in a very different capacity (ah, the beauty of wearing many hats).

Yes. It is me! I am so happy to be able to talk about one of my most favourite topics of imposter syndrome and share the knowledge.

In the hope that it will help someone to feel better, less anxious and more successful in life.

In the nexts 4 weeks I have 3 speaking engagements booked. I’m looking forward to them.

Imposter syndrome can show up in a lot of different ways (there are actually five main types people talk about). But no matter how it looks, the effects are pretty similar.

It can make intelligent, capable people drop out of universify or training they were enjoying.

It can keep someone from growing their business.

It can stop them from putting themse forward for a promotion.

It can cause anxiety, depression, burnout!

And here’s the big one: around 80% deal with this at some point. That’s almost everyone. Which is why it’s not something we can brush off. It really needs a thoughtful approach.

The walls we build.
No, not made of stone. These are the ones we build without realising it.

They are meant to protect us, to help us hide from pain, fear, disappointment. But in reality, they hide us from others, from being seen, and even from ourselves.

And even though it is not intentional, we’ve rely on our past experi news when we were hurt, deceived, we have past wounds and unspoken needs. All those shape the walls.

And what’s worse, these walls come down crushing as soon as someone comes closer, leaving us feeling more hurt, more vulnerable, sometimes resentful and angry. And lonely. Because these walls isolate us.

Loneliness becomes our survival and silence causes pain.

AND WE GET STUCK

Maybe the real question is not how to get rid of the walls but long we can live with them before we have to face the reality.

And before we can do this, we need to develop the courage to notice the walls we have built and understand why we did it. Then we can move towards freedom.

Growing up in Azerbaijan, I’ve always known how heavy the stigma around mental health is. Admitting to anxiety, depression or simply struggling is still seen by many as a personal failure.

People often turn to coaching or focus on achieving more, hoping that success will bring happiness. Therapy, unfortunately, is still treated like the very last resort, sometimes even a shameful one.

I’ve seen talented, hardworking people who, instead of addressing inner pain, buried themselves in work or self-improvement programs.

The idea is, if I become better, maybe the pain will disappear.

So they avoid facing the real issues. And this avoidance means the real change does not happen.

But what if happiness means accepting vulnerability and seeking honest support, even if that means asking for help?

Thankfully, things are beginning to shift. People are starting to share their experiences more openly, especially the next generation. There are new community programs and some incredible stories of resilience.

Slowly professionals are building safe spaces for conversations. At the same time, families are beginning to realise that mental health is not a taboo, but just another part of life, part of all health.

Change is slow and it’s far from perfect. But it is great to see the progress. I’m looking forward to learning more
