This gorgeous big girl is called Sadie and she is a 5 year old Bullmastiff and suffers from chronic pain. Sadie was dealing with weight issues which in turn caused her issues with cruciate ligaments which has led to arthritis. Sadie’s mum Lisa first contacted me for dietary and weight management advice and now Sadie has lost loads of weight but sadly still has musculoskeletal issues. She has received only one massage therapy treatment and Lisa has noticed a big improvement. Sadie couldn’t jump on the sofa for the past 6 months and the day after the treatment she jumped on the sofa. Lisa has also reported that Sadie is moving better and has increased energy. I’m so pleased to hear about the overall improvement and look forward to further treatments with Sadie 🐾🐾

Atrophy - Is where you see and feel muscle loss

ADL’s - Activity Daily Living, this is what our dogs do on a daily basis, such as jumping in cars, on sofa or ball chasing. This all can have an impact on the dog’s muscles

I often find tightness around the shoulders in dogs and this is due to overusing the muscle Biceps Brachii. Massage is amazing in these areas to reduce tension and pain to allow more movement across the shoulder and elbow area

🐾 Muscle Spotlight: Biceps Brachii! 💪

This front-leg muscle helps your pup flex the elbow and stabilise the shoulder—basically powering jumps, fetch, and zoomies! 🐕✨

Keep it strong with play, walks, and gentle exercise. Notice stiffness or limping? Time for a check!

Hudson the Labrador comes in to see me every month for his massage treatment and always loves to be holding an object in his mouth.. Today, he couldn’t make up his mind and had a treat and a ball 😂😂 He’s something else 🤣 Anyway, regular massage really helps Hudson with daily ADL’s (Activity Daily Living)

Benefits of massage for elderly dog

Massage can be highly beneficial for elderly dogs, offering several physical and emotional advantages:

1. **Pain Relief**: Massage can help reduce chronic pain associated with conditions like arthritis or hip dysplasia by promoting blood flow and relaxation of tense muscles.

2. **Improved Circulation**: Regular massage can enhance blood circulation, which is crucial for delivering oxygen and nutrients to tissues and aiding in recovery processes.

3. **Increased Flexibility and Range of Motion**: Gentle stretching and manipulation of joints can help maintain or improve flexibility, making movement easier and more comfortable.

4. **Stress Reduction**: The calming effects of massage can help alleviate anxiety and stress, promoting a sense of well-being in elderly dogs.

5. **Enhanced Bonding**: Massage sessions provide an opportunity for increased physical contact and bonding between the dog and owner, leading to improved emotional health for both.

6. **Reduction of Muscle Tension**: Regular massage can help release muscle tension, leading to a more relaxed and comfortable dog.

7. **Support for Recovery**: For dogs recovering from surgery or injury, massage can aid in rehabilitation by reducing swelling and pain and promoting healing.

8. **Improved Sleep Quality**: By promoting relaxation, massage can help improve the quality of sleep, which is often disrupted in older dogs.
