I have just completed another busy weekend of hypnotherapy training. This week we learnt how to help clients stop smoking, how to work with clients with addictions and how to urge surf - so how to resist the temptation of that chocolate bar. Today, the 3rd Monday in January, is now known as Blue Monday, and while there is no proof that it is the most depressing day of the year, it does provide a great opportunity to promote taking care of your mental health.

If you are struggling here are some tips for you:

Reach Out: Connect with friends, family, or a mental health professional to share your feelings and seek support.

Practice Self-Care: Engage in activities that promote well- being, such as exercise, meditation, or hobbies you enjoy.

Set Realistic Goals: Break tasks into manageable steps to reduce feelings of overwhelm.

Acknowledge Emotions: It's okay to feel sad, but try to identify and challenge negative thought patterns.

Limit Stressors: Reduce exposure to stressors when possible, and prioritise self-compassion.

A lot of people struggle at Christmas for one reason or another and spending so much time with family can sometimes be a bit challenging. Here are some tips for surviving the holiday season.

Keep it simple, focus on nostalgia

Zone out

Manage your expectations

Consider your boundaries ahead of time and be ready to enforce them

Don't try to control the situation

Debrief with a friend, loved one or therapist

Take breaks - have an escape plan
