Today is National Children’s Day UK (10th May 2026) and isn’t just another date in the calendar but a powerful reminder of something we can easily overlook in busy lives and busy systems - childhood matters.
This year’s message is clear that every child deserves to be
💛 Healthy
💛 Happy
💛 Heard
💛 Supported

Because when we protect children’s rights, wellbeing and freedom, we’re shaping the adults they will become.
Every child should have the chance to flourish. Not just academically or socially, but emotionally, physically and mentally too.
This is a day that is all about the importance of children and young people and how their rights, freedoms and wellbeing all need to be protected in order for them to grow into happy, healthy adults.

⭐️MEET THE TEAM⭐️

HOW DID YOU COME TO YOUR ROLE AS OFFICE MANAGER?

After a career break to look after my children, I started doing admin work for a therapy company, which developed into an Office Manager role. I enjoy the organisation and coordination side of things, and I find it really fulfilling to support clinicians and families indirectly.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT WORKING AT SENSORY SMART CHILD THERAPIES?

Being part of a team that genuinely cares about what they do, and seeing how everything comes together to support children and families.

WHAT IS YOUR SENSORY QUIRK?

I hate sticky/slimy things — I feel the urge to wash my hands straight away!

IF YOU COULD HAVE A SUPERPOWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Time travel — I’d love to be able to go back in time with the knowledge I have now.

SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT ME

I practice a Korean martial art called Tang Soo Do. I have a young Labrador called Dexter, a chinchilla called Tails, and tropical fish.

How can you support a child with auditory challenges?

For some children, the world isn’t just noisy It’s overwhelming.

Background chatter, sudden sounds, busy environments, things many of us filter out easily can feel intense, distracting, or even distressing.
Children with auditory challenges may struggle to focus when there’s background noise.

Or they may feel overwhelmed in busy or loud spaces and need instructions repeated. You might also notice they become anxious or fatigued more quickly.

And sometimes it can be misunderstood as not listening.

💡 So how can we support them?

Small changes can make a big difference:

👉 Reduce background noise where possible (TV, music, chatter)
👉 Gain their attention before speaking
👉 Use clear, simple instructions
👉 Allow extra processing time
👉 Create calm, quiet spaces for breaks

🎧 Tools like noise-reducing headphones or quiet corners can also help children feel more in control of their environment.

💛 Patience and understanding go a long way. Often children aren’t ignoring you but they’re working hard to process a world that can feel very loud.

If you support a child with auditory challenges, what strategies have worked for you?

Today is International Dance Day!
Dance isn’t just about steps, rhythm or performance. For many children, it’s a way to express, regulate and feel free!

For children with sensory processing challenges, the world can sometimes feel overwhelming.
But through movement and dance, they can:
👉 Release energy
👉 Explore their bodies safely
👉 Express emotions without words
👉 Build confidence in their own way
✨ The beauty of dance is that there’s no “right” way to do it.

💃Jumping, spinning, swaying
💃Moving fast or slow
🕺Dancing alone or with others
🎼Following music or creating their own rhythm

🎧 And it can be adapted to suit every child:
Quiet music or no music at all!
Plenty of space and no pressure and the freedom to stop and start when needed.
For some children, dance becomes more than play!
It becomes a safe outlet, a confidence builder and a way to feel in control of their world.
Today is a lovely reminder that movement is powerful. Expression is personal.
And every child deserves the space to move in a way that feels right for them.

Does your child love to dance?
