Wildwood Health Worm Counts An Independent Specialist Testing laboratory Service Est.2015 for Faecal Egg Worm Counts. Equine Camelid sheep Goats Avian by Qualified Laboratory Scientist.

AMTRA Qualified RAMA GOLD STANDARD SQP. Dip AMA. FREE Veterinary approved deworming advice. Are you concerned about worms in your horses? If you're not, you should be! Researcher’s report that decades of frequent deworming of all horses without regard for season or individual horses' needs has put us on a destructive path, with worms becoming increasingly resistant to deworming drugs and no quick or easy solutions in sight. We have to change the way we manage parasite loads in our horses. Feacal egg counting is a fantastic development in the professional parasitological tool kit. They can be used to assess whether the chemical intervals of a worming program are suppressing egg laying activity. They can be used to detect resistance to chemical wormers and they will also detect severe parasite infections. Veterinary recommendations are to stop blanket chemical worming as there is no need. It is only by replacing the chemicals with feacal egg counting that our horses will remain safe. The incorporation of this practice into your horse health care program should commence. Do all companies and vets offer the same service? Every test involves the analysis of dung under a microscope improve the visibility of the sample. A centrifuge spins the dung and organic matter in the sample away from the eggs. With a centrifuge only the eggs are left to view. This sample is then viewed on a special slide and three counts are done to ensure accurate results are obtained for each individual sample.Every customer can then make effective decision on worming tailored for their specific requirements.

⏰ DIARY OPEN – LIMITED EQUINE YARD VISITS AVAILABLE ⏰
Worming count season will soon be here here – don’t leave it too late!
The diary is now open
I’m now booking equine yard visits for Faecal Egg Counts (FECs), the gold standard for responsible parasite control.
💡 Why choose www.wildwoodwormcounts.co.uk over a vet plan?
💷 Cost comparison:
Typical vet worming plans can cost £120–£200+ per horse per year.
With Wildwood Worm Counts, you pay only for testing and targeted treatment, often saving £££s annually.
💡 Why the difference?
Some veterinary plans are standardised for larger practices, which can mean paying for routine treatments rather than what your horse actually needs.
At Wildwood Worm Counts, the focus is simple:
✔️ Evidence-based, individualised parasite control
✔️ Best practice, not standard packages
✔️ Cost-effective worming for every horse
✔️ FREE worming risk assessment
✔️ FREE tailored de-worming advice
Perfect for livery yards, private yards, or group bookings.
🚨 Slots are limited as we are busy testing in the lab and filling fast – don’t miss out!

🦙🔬🪱Why Choose Wildwood worm counts for Your Alpaca Faecal Egg Counts?

When it comes to managing parasite control in your alpacas, accurate FEC testing is essential.
⚠️There are some services offering IA rapid testing I have been waiting for 4 months from various companies for scientific evidence on efficacy of this testing in Alpacas but none has arrived! Here's why a specialist laboratory service offers advantages over alternatives:

✅ Consistent Accuracy - Laboratory-grade equipment and trained technician ensure reliable repeatable results you can trust for treatment decisions.

✅ Cost-Effective - Specialist FEC services typically cost less than vet consultations while maintaining professional standards.

✅ Convenience - Simple postal service means no appointment scheduling or travel time—just post your samples and receive detailed results.

✅ Species-Specific Expertise - Unlike general DIY , our specialist service understands camelid parasitology and provide tailored guidance.

✅ Comprehensive Reporting - Detailed egg counts with species identification help you make informed decisions about targeted treatment.

Smart parasite management starts with accurate testing. Avoid under-treating (allowing resistance to develop) or over-treating (promoting resistance and unnecessary cost.

⚠️ Why correct parasite control advice matters – especially for foals & yearlings ⚠️
Pictured here is an ascarid (roundworm) passed by a young horse belonging to a client who followed our advice.
Ascarids are one of the biggest parasite risks in foals and yearlings. Incorrect worming, mis timed treatments, or using the wrong product can lead to:
• Heavy burdens
• Impaction colic
• Poor growth and condition
• Treatment failure due to resistance
This is exactly why targeted advice based on evidence, age, and risk is essential – not guesswork or outdated routines.
✔️ Worm egg counts
✔️ Age-appropriate protocols
✔️ Resistance-aware recommendations

❄️ Winter Worming for Our Donkeys — Why It Matters! ❄️
Winter might seem quiet, but parasites don’t take a holiday! Cold weather can mask signs of worm burdens in donkeys — meaning they can still suffer without obvious symptoms. That’s why proper seasonal worming is vital for their health and comfort.
At Wildwood Worm Counts, we focus on: ✔️ Monitoring worm levels even in winter
✔️ Choosing the right wormer at the right time
✔️ Protecting donkeys from weight loss, colic, and poor coat condition
🌟 Healthy donkeys are happy donkeys! Let’s keep them strong all year round.

❄️🐎 Cold Weather, Parasites & Impaction Colic – The Hidden Winter Risk 🐎❄️
Winter is prime time for impaction colic, and it’s rarely caused by just one thing.
👉 In cold weather, horses often: • Drink less (cold or frozen water)
• Eat more dry hay
• Move less
This leads to dry, slow-moving gut contents.
🪱 Add parasites into the mix – especially encysted small redworm – and the risk increases further. Parasites can inflame and thicken the gut wall, reducing normal movement through the intestine.
📍 The result? A perfect storm for impaction colic, most commonly at the pelvic flexure and large colon.
✅ Reduce the risk this winter • Encourage water intake (warm water, soaked feeds)
• Maintain regular movement
• Avoid sudden forage changes
• Use targeted worming based on worm counts, not guesswork
Knowing your horse’s parasite status is a vital part of protecting gut health – especially in winter.
