Bits of FEB.

I blew up one of my paintings into a giant poster and it turned out great, maybe one day I'll actually hang it on the wall - labrador for scale.

Silly Prince

Did a bit of gardening and got proper muddy and I could be gross and dishevelled in peace - It was divine.

The frogs came back to my garden pond to lay eggs.

Painted at least 3 paintings, one of them I am not willing to reveal yet.

Oh and I was on telly.

Swipe for my sketchbook planning for this painting.
Fun fact, I made this painting in October of last year in a very productive season of being offline.....and there are MORE.

I wanted to created a series of paintings of the signs of the zodiac, but in animal form.

For the water bearer I chose an otter for aquatic reasons.
However since Aquarius is actually an Air Sign - bubbles!

This is the second version of this concept that I made, swipe to see the original (which was very cute, but I decided to go in a different style direction - I also think I overdid it with the coloured pencils in the first one.

My favourite part about this painting is actually the background, it came out exactly like I wanted.

I've actually had such a good time making these paintings.

Thank you to .crocus and for your amazing references and organising the challenge. Its actually made me want to go through my own bank of photos and find some painting inspo.

I call this one Silent Summits. It got a bit messy round the edges, but I think that adds charm.

Here are some watercolour paintings that I made for a family wedding that just happened last weekend.

The tree picture is the view at the wedding venue where and Uncle Rob got married (right beneath the tree)! The sheep and the red squirrel are also representative of the location - the always beautiful Lake District.

Anyway, I loved painting these. 💚💚

Another gouache sketch in my tree sketchbook.
This is a tree that I regularly pass on my daily dog walks.
I caught a moment with my camera when the evening light hitting the tree and decided to try it with paint.

I dont think I captured the warm tones at all, but I do think you get a feeling of the directional strength of the light and the breezy atmosphere.

With these sketches, I want to practice capturing colour and light specifically. Trees are a great subject for this because they have a lot of angles and wrinkles that collect shadows and highlights, and they all live in varied colourful landscapes, which I am excited to include as well. Also, I'm not going do construction sketches for each painting, I'm just going to jump straight in with paint, this way I'm hoping to boost my confidence building a composition with paint marks.
