Here are some watercolour paintings that I made for a family wedding that just happened last weekend.

The tree picture is the view at the wedding venue where and Uncle Rob got married (right beneath the tree)! The sheep and the red squirrel are also representative of the location - the always beautiful Lake District.

Anyway, I loved painting these. 💚💚

Another gouache sketch in my tree sketchbook.
This is a tree that I regularly pass on my daily dog walks.
I caught a moment with my camera when the evening light hitting the tree and decided to try it with paint.

I dont think I captured the warm tones at all, but I do think you get a feeling of the directional strength of the light and the breezy atmosphere.

With these sketches, I want to practice capturing colour and light specifically. Trees are a great subject for this because they have a lot of angles and wrinkles that collect shadows and highlights, and they all live in varied colourful landscapes, which I am excited to include as well. Also, I'm not going do construction sketches for each painting, I'm just going to jump straight in with paint, this way I'm hoping to boost my confidence building a composition with paint marks.

A long time ago, in a time before myth and magic I went for a really foggy dog walk and saw a scene that I thought I would like to paint.

Let me tell you, this painting made me FEEL like the amateur that I am. It HUMBLED ME. Not gonna lie, I wrote in my journal about it, IT WAS THAT SERIOUS.

There are elements I like about it, but I couldn't get it as LUMINOUS as I wanted, and that frustrated me. And then I overworked it.

It's been a few days now, and I am am now in a position where I feel comfortable sharing this, and that position is on the sofa on a Friday evening.

This Christmas I decided not to buy as many presents and paint some pictures for friends and family instead. Even though it was a challenge to get them all finished for Christmas Day, I proper enjoyed making them and learned a lot along the way too.

The majority of these were made with Gouache and watercolour and I'm so proud with how they turned out.

I've found a real enjoyment in painting landscapes over the past month and I'm looking forward to exploring this more in the new year.

10/10/2024 - Howl's Moving Castle

I had the bright idea of trying to depict Calcifer the fire demon in the flesh of a pumpkin...not sure what I released in doing so, but here is the result. In hindsight, maybe I should have gone to Google for some inspo, but I just motored on learning by doing, and the result is slightly traumatising.

Btw. I've never carved a pumpkin before, and it's extremely therapeutic. Highly recommend 10/10.

I made my own custom list this year with the and prompt lists, with a scattering of my own ideas too.

I wanna make uninhibited stuff this year. And I'm allowing myself to use any medium I want. So expect lots of mixed media.
