Today is National Grief Awareness Day 💜

At some point in our lives, we will all be impacted by grief. And yet, it's still something so many people don't talk about or have misconceptions of.

We wanted to share some reminders for National Grief Awareness Day- are there any you would add to this list?

If you need support, you're not alone.

Had another wonderful evening at The Kirby Muxloe Death Cafe held in The Royal Oak, Kirby Muxloe last night. So good I completely forgot to take a photo until after several folk had left!

Thank you to those who attended. Conversation ranged from who a funeral is for - the deceased or the mourners - to showing kindness in death and life.

The next cafe is planned for 2nd Oct.

Thank you so much Catrina of Hardingstone Ceremonies for initiating and running this event. Jon Underwood, the founder of the Death Cafe said words along the lines of 'just as talking about s*x does not make you pregnant, talking about death does not make it happen'. So true!
The lovely people who came last night, came from with different beliefs about life, death and dying and all were listened to with respect and interest. Thank you all for your conversation!
Facing our mortality can, I believe, help us to fully live.

Direct Cremation Services with natural interment of cremated remains by The Natural Burial Company. Three trees are planted for each cremation

30/06/2025

What places do you think of for a funeral?
Thinking of recent and upcoming services of mine, there is a whole variety...
Funeral and cremation services at Gilroes, Loughborough and South Leicestershire Crematoria
An interment of ashes at Anstey cemetery
A burial at The Natural Burial Company
site in Scraptoft followed by a Celebration of Life service at Scraptoft Golf Club
A Celebration of Life service at The Royal Oak, Kirby Muxloe following an unattended cremation.
There is so much choice! Talk to your families and local funeral directors to find out what is going to be the best way for you to say goodbye to your loved one.

Always good to think about what we really would like for ourselves and our loved ones

Natural burial.

While vast sums of money are poured into promoting direct cremation, there’s another choice that you might not have thought of.

Around the UK there are hundreds of natural burial grounds. While locally they will be well known, there hasn’t been a strong collective movement to encourage people to think about choosing natural burial for themselves or for someone they love, so this is an option that is often overlooked.

This gorgeous photo is from one of the natural burial grounds recommended by the Good Funeral Guide, in Oxton.

Have a look and see whether there’s a natural burial ground near you, and go and visit it. Once you’ve walked in one of these beautiful places we think the idea of cremation may take second place in your plans.

Prices vary throughout the country, but are usually significantly lower than traditional burial in cemeteries.

Some beautiful roses just delivered from a lady whose husband's service I took a while back. 'You were in my heart,' she said. 'I can't thank you enough.'
I have been overwhelmed with the lovely cards, gifts of flowers, wine and plants that I've received recently from families, all very much appreciated.
I do my job because it is an honour and a privilege to make the goodbyes special.
Thank you to all those who entrust me to do that for their loved one.
(And the roses smell divine!! 😊)

Today is only the second time I've been to Trent Valley Crematorium but, arriving early, there was time to wander into the Garden of Rembrance. Beautiful!
