Whenever I do a consultation with a client they always laugh at the way I’ll get up in the loft to have a look even if I’m looking at a kitchen 😂

One of the main problems with clutter is that every space affects another. I have a theory called ‘take the lid off’… make sure that your storage areas like garage/loft/eaves are decluttered so that the pressure is taken off the rest of the house. There will be a lot of easy decluttering wins in the storage areas as they are often a bit of a limbo zone when we don’t know what to do with something.

Now, when tackling other parts of your home you’ll have somewhere to store items you need to keep, but don’t belong in your living space. This will make the decluttering process throughout the rest of your home a lot easier!

As always, book a charity collection so you can get stuff out of your house & out of your hair!

Decluttering is SO satisfying - here are my top 5 reasons why…

1. Stress release - clutter sits in our homes constantly reminding us that we have to sort it or tidy up 🤯 it’s exhausting to look at & makes us feel overwhelmed! Decluttering is a mental weight off our shoulders!

2. Space - decluttering gives you physical space back in your home, but also gives us back mental space to be more productive and make positive changes.

3. Letting go of stuff from the past can give us a new lease of life & energy for the future. Coming home and constantly being confronted with clutter can make us feel really stuck.

4. Giving to others - there is no doubt that giving to charity is one of the absolute best parts of a good declutter at home ❤️

5. Housework - less clutter on surfaces means so much less tidying and makes cleaning a breeze! Keeping hold of clutter makes basic household chores so much harder than they need to be 🫠

Another before & after of this beautiful dressing room! This job was just so fun & the satisfaction is 👌🏻

The declutter is what made all the difference here. My client donated a huge amount of (amazing!) clothes to charity… and is selling her designer pieces with .a.preloved & - both amazing I work with these ladies all the time!

Putting your house on the market is a really exciting step! There are a few ways that you can really ease the process along, and preparation is key…

1. The obvious… declutter. Declutter your entire house, top to bottom. Treat it like a rebirth! Decluttering will make your house appear more spacious, make it SO much easier to tidy for viewings, make it far more attractive to viewers AND it will pay dividends when you actually come to move and unpack! Who want to pay to move a load of clutter then be faced with it again at your new house?!

2. Consider depersonalising your house slightly before viewings. You might love the ‘This is Where the Magic Happens’ sign above your bed but viewers may run a mile 😂. People understand that it is your home & you are living there, but they need to imagine living there themselves!

3. Clean and tidy - it doesn’t need to be hospital standard, but a well kept, tidy home is something we all strive for. If the house doesn’t feel that way when people view it, are they going to aspire to live there?

4. Smells… let lots of fresh air in before viewings. There is nothing worse than potent cooking smells or an unidentifiable musty smell when you’re viewing a house. Don’t go mad with overpowering fragrance but make sure it smells pleasant & welcoming!

5. Each room has a purpose - make sure that your home shows viewers the full potential it can offer. If you’re lucky enough to have a dining area - even if you never sit at the table yourself, make sure it is staged as a dining room and not a multi use space. You don’t want to undersell your home by making it look limited.

The difference that a few small touches can make is huge, and may even sell your home quicker or mean it achieves a higher price!

If the clutter in your home has got to the stage where you don’t know where to start, there are a few ways to reduce overwhelm and keep motivated…

- Remember… it is only ‘stuff’ and it CAN be sorted - no item in your home is worth more than your mental health. Any step in the right direction is a positive one. Even if you go through a drawer and remove one item - it’s one less piece of clutter stressing you out!

- The basic principle of Categorise, Declutter, Reorganise works no matter the scale of the clutter. When you’re not sure what to do, just start putting items in categories wherever you can. Think of the categories in a big Tesco if you get stuck

Once you have your categories, you’re halfway there! Now you can see how much of each thing you’ve got and letting go will be so much easier!

- If the amount of clutter is extreme and has been sat for years, ask yourself how you’d honestly feel if it just disappeared altogether (mostly relieved) - this should help decisions along!

- We always feel a loss twice as much as a gain, so to combat this remember that ‘losing’ clutter means gaining space, reduced stress & anxiety and saves time tidying up a load of crap you don’t need! Keep your eye on the goal for more space so you feel comfortable with letting go.

- It’s normal if decluttering feels exhausting and emotional… sometimes it can even make us feel guilty. But we all have a limited space in our home & a right to live comfortably in them so this takes priority over keeping every single thing!

- Don’t try to tackle sentimental items first. Get yourself into the process with a non-emotional category or room first. In fact, if an item means something to you and brings back fond memories there is no reason to let go of it ever! It’s all the clutter which needs to go - not the stuff we love!

Once you’ve seen the benefits of decluttering you’ll find it easier to do in the future 💕

‘Clutter’ is totally subjective!

For some people, it means no visible floor, and for others a bit of disorganisation behind cupboard doors will drive them mad!

Whatever the tipping point is in your house - decluttering is life changing! ✨

Paperwork is hands down the job my clients dread the most! 🫠

It builds up so quickly because it’s easier to just keep everything - then becomes totally overwhelming & hard to find anything! 👀

I also find that a massive pile of paperwork in a kitchen or god forbid a bedroom hangs over you like a black cloud! 🌧️

It may feel overwhelming when you start but the satisfaction from this job is 10/10! 🌟 don’t be afraid of the shredder!!!!

Save this post for later when you tackle your paperwork pile!

Some tips for moving house 🏡

Getting ready to move is stressful at the best of times, but taking away the clutter element turns the difficultly level right down 🎚️ it can even help to sell your home if the surfaces are nice & clear and everything is tidy ✨

Save yourself the stress at the other end when you want to be enjoying your new home and tackle it before you move.

There is nothing worse on moving day than opening boxes to a random mixture of stuff when you just want to settle in and relax!

Honestly, we can’t live in fear of this! I’m absolutely ruthless in my own home so have experienced this scenario hundreds of times 🤣 but I don’t mind as for me the value of an uncluttered home is 👌🏻

9 times out of 10 you will never think about that item again! I’d take those odds! 🎲

If you have no connection to it, haven’t used it and it’s taking up space in your home - move it in 👋

Our living area shouldn’t feel like a storage facility - that’s too stressful and claustrophobic!

What do you find hard to declutter? Tell me in the comments below ⬇️ 💕

A little and what it’s like to have me in your home doing my thing!

I get very easily distracted, constantly 🤣 but somehow manage to finish every job by some miracle 🙌

I have zero interest in judging you or your house… I just want to meet your pets & laugh with you all day 💕

I genuinely love my job and have so much fun while I’m working 🌟

I have an air fryer and will bore you to death telling you what I cook in it 🤣
