A lesion does not have to look dramatic to be suspicious.
This small pink lesion I found this week had features that raised concern for a basal cell carcinoma (BCC), including visible surface vessels and a shiny, persistent appearance.

These are the sorts of changes that can easily be dismissed as “nothing”, especially when they are small and not particularly painful.

BCCs usually grow slowly and are very unlikely to spread elsewhere, but that does not mean they should be ignored. Left alone, they can continue to grow and cause more local tissue damage over time.

If you have a mark that is new, changing, repeatedly crusting, bleeding, or simply not settling, it is worth getting it checked.

If this is helpful, save this post or share it with someone who is always putting off getting a skin lesion looked at.

That “spot” you have been ignoring for weeks or months might be nothing serious. But it should not just be dismissed because it is painless, small, or seems to come and go.

One of the biggest patterns I see is people normalising skin changes that bleed a little, keep scabbing, do not heal properly, or seem to improve before coming back again.

Not all concerning lesions are dark, dramatic, or obvious. Some look like dry skin. Some look like a stubborn spot. Some look deceptively innocent until they are examined more closely.

If you have a lesion that is persistent, changing, crusting, bleeding, or simply worrying you, I can help with professional assessment in clinic, including dermoscopy where appropriate, and advise on the next steps if needed.

Please do not sit on uncertainty for months.

Pigmentation is one of the most common concerns I see in clinic, but not all pigmentation is the same.

Sun spots, melasma, freckles and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can all look similar at first glance, yet they behave very differently and do not all respond to the same approach.

That is exactly why proper assessment matters.

In this carousel, I am breaking down some of the most common types of pigmentation, what may trigger them, and why treatment needs to be tailored to the cause rather than guessed.

If you are struggling with uneven skin tone, dark marks or stubborn patches of pigment, I can help you work out what may be going on and guide you towards a safe, realistic treatment plan.

Collagen banking is one of those phrases that is everywhere right now, but the idea behind it is actually very simple.

It means taking steps to protect the collagen you already have, while supporting your skin to produce more over time. That matters because collagen is a big part of what gives skin firmness, structure and resilience, and natural production declines as we age. UV exposure is also a major driver of collagen damage and photoageing.

In clinic, this is not about one miracle treatment. It is usually about a combination of sensible skincare, daily sun protection, and well-chosen collagen-supporting treatments tailored to your skin and goals. Depending on suitability, that might include topical vitamin A, microneedling, and other regenerative skin treatments.

If you want a long-term approach to skin quality rather than a quick fix, this is exactly the sort of conversation I love having in clinic.

Rosacea is often dismissed as “just blushing” or “sensitive skin”, but for many people it is much more persistent than that.

It is a long term inflammatory skin condition that can cause flushing, ongoing facial redness, visible thread veins, sensitivity, burning, stinging, and sometimes acne-like bumps. It can also flare in response to things like sunlight, temperature changes, spicy foods, alcohol, stress, exercise, and harsh skincare.

One of the biggest problems I see is people throwing too many products at already reactive skin, which often makes things worse rather than better.

In clinic, my approach is centred around understanding what your skin is doing, identifying possible triggers, supporting the skin barrier, simplifying home care where needed, and recommending suitable professional treatments and skincare for rosacea-prone skin.

If your skin is constantly red, reactive or uncomfortable, you do not have to keep guessing.

DM ROSACEA or book a consultation if you would like tailored support.

Not sure what to book? You’re not alone — and you don’t need to guess.

At Oscare Wellness, we start with skin analysis/consultation-first, then build a plan that helps you get results safely and sensibly (no overwhelm, no random treatments).

If you want me to guide you to the right starting point, comment START or DM START and tell me your main concern (texture / breakouts / redness / pigmentation / lines).

Suitability assessed at consultation. Results vary from person to person.

Treat Mum to something she will actually enjoy this Mother’s Day.

For Mother’s Day only, I’m offering 10% off Pure Hydro as a special gift offer.

Pure Hydro is a lovely treatment for anyone wanting fresher, brighter, more hydrated skin and a proper bit of time for themselves.

Perfect if you are treating your mum, dropping a hint, or booking a little self-care for yourself.

Please note: appointments do not need to take place on Mother’s Day itself, as I won’t be working that day. The offer is simply to celebrate Mother’s Day and can be booked for a later date.

DM to book or message me for details.

Hair feeling thinner, flatter or just not as healthy as it used to?

It might be time to look at the scalp as well as the hair itself.

I’m now retailing Nioxin Systems by Wella, including the new Age Defense range, to support clients dealing with hair thinning, scalp concerns, and visible ageing changes in the hair.

The best part is that it isn’t one-size-fits-all.
There are different systems depending on whether your hair is natural or coloured, and whether thinning is mild or more progressed. There is also the Age Defense range for clients wanting support with fullness, smoothness and maintaining natural colour.

If you’re not sure where to start, that is exactly what I’m here for. I can help you choose the most appropriate option based on your scalp, hair type and goals.

Skin cancer does not come in just one form, and it definitely does not always look how people expect it to.

One of the biggest misconceptions I see is the idea that skin cancer always looks dark, obvious, or alarming from the outset. In reality, some lesions can look surprisingly subtle.

In this post I have covered three of the better-known types:
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC)
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)
Melanoma

They can all present differently, which is why a lesion that is persistent, changing, bleeding, crusting, or simply not behaving normally deserves proper assessment.

This is also why I am so cautious about anything that has been dismissed as “just dry skin” or “probably nothing” without closer examination.

Social media can raise awareness, but it cannot diagnose. If you have something on your skin that is not settling, is evolving, or just does not feel right, please get it checked by an appropriate professional.

Early assessment matters.

Some of you might not know this, but I’ve been working alongside Liz at Elizabeth Aesthetics for around three years now. I've just not shouted about it properly.

Liz and I go way back (to 2009 in fact!), and we share the same priorities: safe practice, evidence-based treatment plans, and honest advice (even when it’s not the “quick fix”).

I run clinics at Liz’s location 1–2 days a week, and I’m also one of the clinic’s CQC Registered Managers, supporting governance, patient safety and standards across the service.

What this means for you:
You get access to a broader range of treatments under one roof, with a joined-up team who will always guide you to the right clinician.

Last month I spotted a basal cell carcinoma (BCC) on a client’s forehead and it’s a reminder of how deceptive skin changes can be.

To the naked eye it looked like a bit of dry, hardened skin (even like an early seborrhoeic keratosis). Under the dermatoscope, it was a completely different picture, with features that raised real concern.

We used Map My Mole to get a consultant dermatologist opinion, she was referred into NHS Dermatology, the lesion was removed, and histology confirmed BCC.

BCC is usually localised and very treatable, but it still needs proper assessment and management.

If you’ve got a “little patch” that keeps coming back, won’t heal, crusts, bleeds, or just doesn’t look right, please don’t ignore it. Get it checked by someone trained, with the right equipment.

If you’re worried about a skin lesion, book in for a consultation. Early reassurance (or early action) is always the win.
