A lesion does not have to look dramatic to be suspicious.
This small pink lesion I found this week had features that raised concern for a basal cell carcinoma (BCC), including visible surface vessels and a shiny, persistent appearance.
These are the sorts of changes that can easily be dismissed as “nothing”, especially when they are small and not particularly painful.
BCCs usually grow slowly and are very unlikely to spread elsewhere, but that does not mean they should be ignored. Left alone, they can continue to grow and cause more local tissue damage over time.
If you have a mark that is new, changing, repeatedly crusting, bleeding, or simply not settling, it is worth getting it checked.
If this is helpful, save this post or share it with someone who is always putting off getting a skin lesion looked at.
