Hello everyone! 👋🏻🐾

Most of you have probably guessed by our social media silence that our Christmas break didn’t quite go to plan. It resulted in numerous vet visits, hospital trips, and very little sleep!

But we are finally starting to feel human again, and a much-appreciated care basket is helping us work through a backlog of emails before we dive into the exciting content we have planned.

In the meantime, we’d love to hear how you are all doing during this very cold January! 💙

The AYL team is officially out of the office for the Christmas break!

Although our out-of-office notification is live a little later than planned, we couldn’t resist completing one last-minute Christmas Eve wheelchair handover. Thanks to a very speedy delivery from Ki Mobility, one user will remain independent and comfortable this holiday season - the best gift we could give.

We have several updates to share with you soon, but for now, the team is taking time to recharge. Until then, please note:

• Our services will be closed from 24/12/25 until 05/01/26.

• You may see social media content during this period, which has been scheduled in advance.

• We will only be responding to calls and texts regarding URGENT equipment emergencies, such as breakdowns.

We have spent a lot of time in London over the last few months for conferences, client visits, and hospital appointments, so it was nice to squeeze in an evening to see the Christmas lights and go to the theatre. 🎄

Getting around with a wheelchair and an assistance dog is no easy feat! As usual, the tube lift was out of service, but it gave us the chance to enjoy the sights without crowds during our walk back to the hotel, while I stayed warm in my BundleBean blanket and cosy. We currently have three charity funding spots available for individuals needing to raise a remaining balance of approximately £1,000–£1,500 toward already chosen equipment (e.g. wheelchair, powered attachment, or parts).

Although we typically have a long waitlist for charity funding, due to the time of year, we have these remaining spots and would like to ensure they are used, especially since charities often provide greater support in the lead up to Christmas. 🎁

This pre-owned power attachment includes the battery, charger and a toolkit. The Batec Mini attaches to the front of your active wheelchair by using a bracket which is included in the sale. This can be used on wheelchairs with a fixed footplate or with swing-away footplates. The Mini is a compact version of the Batec wheelchair Attachment range. With a smaller wheel it is perfect for negotiating tight spaces and great for holidays, day trips and weekends away.

WE DID IT! 🏅

Not only did we cross the Great North Run finish line, but we also reached our fundraising goal!

Although we are both still very exhausted from the race, we wanted to thank everyone who donated to or shared our fundraising page. Every contribution truly makes a difference and allows Canine Partners to continue their life-changing work by providing assistance dogs, like Fliss, to people with disabilities, like Lauren.

Stay tuned for some video insights into how Felix pushed me in my wheelchair, along with all my necessary medical equipment for 13.1 miles! 🦮👩🏻‍🦽🏃🏻

Over the years, we have continually received numerous horror stories from our users about their experiences with NHS wheelchair services, including the AYL team. So we highly recommend that our pediatric users and/or their families share their experiences with Whizz Kidz! ♿️

The Whizz Kidz Youth Board are conducting research into the suitability of the equipment provided to young wheelchair users by NHS Wheelchair Services.

To understand what works well and what may need improving, young wheelchair users and their parents/guardians are invited to complete the survey to share experiences of accessing NHS Wheelchair Services and about the equipment offered or provided 👇

For example, does having a smaller turning circle allow you to maneuver within tight spaces in your home? Is your work or educational setting inaccessible without this wheelchair?
