Today one of the children I work with arrived with these beautiful handmade Winnie the Pooh pictures.
Moments like this are so incredibly meaningful. Not just because of the gift itself, but because it shows something much bigger connection, trust, and feeling safe enough to express kindness.
For many children, expressing feelings isn’t always easy. Sometimes it comes through words, sometimes through play… and sometimes through thoughtful little creations like these.
Winnie the Pooh always reminds us that the smallest things can take up the most room in your heart, and today was definitely one of those moments.
I feel so lucky to be able to do the work I do and to work with the amazing children I get to support.
Supporting children, teens and parents to feel heard, valued and understood.

Just a cardboard box.
Some wallpaper samples.
A few wooden figures.
And one brilliant autistic young person learning how her brain works. 🧠
This week, we built a “brain house” together.
Upstairs became the thinking rooms — planning, empathy, problem solving.
Downstairs became the survival rooms — feelings, safety, impulse.
We chose wallpaper samples that felt right for each space.
Different textures for the carpets.
Different colours for different parts of the brain.
Because understanding your brain shouldn’t just be explained.
It should be experienced.
For many autistic young people, the world can feel loud, fast and overwhelming.
When the “downstairs” takes over, it isn’t bad behaviour.
It’s a nervous system trying to protect.
When we can see it, build it and move it around with our hands…
It starts to make sense.
And when something makes sense, it feels less scary.
Less confusing.
More manageable.
Psychoeducation doesn’t have to be worksheets.
Sometimes it’s cardboard and creativity. ✨

I’m an 8 year old with ADHD, and my teacher has just shouted at me…

One minute the teacher was talking. The next, a big blur. Next thing I know, everyone in the class is writing in their books.

“What are we supposed to be doing?” My face feels hot. My mind begins to race. I start to panic.

I don’t want to get embarrassed in front of the class so I ask the person sitting next to me for help. The teacher catches me. In front of the whole class she gives me a row for not paying attention.

Little did I know, I wasn’t silly or a troublemaker. My brain was doing something known as ‘dissociation’ - a coping mechanism where neurodiverse kids mentally detach due to stress in their environment.

This zoning out (which I still do today) feels almost dream like. Time speeds up. And you are completely unaware of your surroundings.

The trick to helping a child with ADHD understand a task is to explain it:

✅ One-to-one
✅ One step at a time
✅ And repeat it a second time

Schools may say they don’t have the time. But my take is that they’d find the time to provide alternative arrangements for a child in a wheelchair in PE.

The issue is that the school system is choosing not to give them time, because of deeply embedded stereotypes about the motives and behaviour of the child with ADHD.

The irony? Once we understand the task - we’ll complete it faster than anyone else.

The truth? We are not lazy - we actually work harder than anyone else just to keep up.

The answer? We just need a little bit of support - understanding and empathy doesn’t take much time, but will make a lifetime of a difference for the next neurodiverse generation ❤️

—————————

Ps at the start of 2026 I made a promise to help 1000 people take up exercise for free (including those with neurodiversity).

I don’t know where I’d be without exercise, but I know it’s overwhelming for many, so…

I have a created free guide called ‘Confused to Confident - Get Exercise Ready in 13 days’ (suitable for all ages)

DM me ‘Confident’ now to get it 😊❤️ just doing my bit to give back!

🌟 Stars Creations Spotlight! 🌟

This beautiful set of nesting dolls was created in session to help explore worries, support, and positive emotions 💛

Each doll represents someone important and who they can trust in this child’s world:
✨ One for Mum
✨ One for their teacher
✨ A positive one celebrating friendship

Together, we used these to talk about:
💬 Who they can share their worries with
🌱 How different people can support them
🌈 The positive relationships that make them feel safe, happy, and connected

It’s a gentle, creative way to help children communicate not only what feels hard…
but also what feels good — reminding them of the friendships and support systems they can lean on 💫

Helping children express their inner world through creativity is one of the magical parts of Reach for the Stars Coaching ⭐️

🎲✨ Emotions Connect 4 ✨🎲

One of our favourite activities here at Reach for the Stars Coaching! ⭐️
Each counter has a different emotion, turning a classic game into a fun, gentle way to help children open up about how they’re feeling. 💛

As we play, we chat about:
🌈 The emotions they’ve used this week
🕰️ When those feelings showed up
💬 What those emotions felt like in their bodies
⭐ And how they managed them
📣Discuss ways to support themselves when similar or bigger emotions arise again

It’s amazing how a simple game can create such powerful conversations.

Helping children understand and express their emotions is at the heart of everything we do 💫
