How to make bedsharing safer:
🟡 Keep pillows and adult bedding away from baby
🟡 Remove headboards that aren’t solid (e.g. slats)*
🟡 Do not have other children or pets in the bed
🟡 Check baby can’t be trapped, wedged, or fall out of bed
🟡 Never leave a baby alone in an adult bed

Do not bedshare if baby was exposed to smoking in pregnancy; someone in the bed smokes; someone in the bed has taken alcohol or drugs, or medication that makes them sleepy; or baby was premature or under 5½lb at birth.

And remember: Adult beds have not been designed or safety tested for infant sleep. The safest place for a baby to sleep is in their own clear, flat, separate sleep space, such as a cot or Moses basket.

Perks for parents
For many parents the weekends are spent ferrying children around classes and parties which can be full on. However when one of those classes invites parents to join in and enjoy time in a lovely sunny pool it can’t be too bad ☀️💦

Don’t sleep on a sofa with your baby, no matter how tired you get – it is extremely dangerous and can increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) by 50 times! Babies are also at risk of accidental death as their airway can become restricted or they can get trapped.

It’s fine to cuddle with your little one on the sofa, but if you feel sleepy, move them onto a firm, flat, separate surface such as a cot or Moses basket.
