Discovering the power of play in supporting emotional wellbeing in the early years was at the heart of our workshop at the Brent Conference on the 8th of November. Mim offered an interactive taster of the POP Wellbeing Play Skills Practitioner training, showing how presence, empathy, and language shape a child’s sense of safety and joy. Through tools like ‘Say What You See’ and an introduction to SandStory Skills®, practitioners explored ways to look beyond behaviours, connect deeply, and become a secure base for young children.

Grateful for the chance to share this work with professionals who support children every day. It was a strong reminder of how practical, hands-on learning helps staff build a gentle therapeutic mindset in their work.

POP Wellbeing Play Skills offers practical training designed for non-therapists who want to deepen their therapeutic approach with children in schools, nurseries, care settings, and youth groups from age 4+.

We’re available to speak at conferences and deliver workshops. You can also bring us into your school or organisation for bespoke training tailored to your team.

Scaring children isn’t funny — it’s frightening.

When we shock or frighten a child and then laugh, we teach their nervous system something powerful and confusing:
👉 that adults can cause fear for fun
👉 that fear should be hidden
👉 that showing emotion isn’t safe

That moment of laughter for us can become a moment of disconnection for them.
Their body goes into fight, flight, or freeze — and if everyone around them is laughing, they learn to suppress their reaction and pretend they’re fine.

That’s not resilience. It’s survival.

And when children learn that fear should be masked rather than felt and soothed, it plants the seeds of anxiety, shame, and emotional suppression later on.

This Halloween, choose connection over shock value.
Let children feel safe. Let their laughter come from joy, not relief that the scary moment is over.

Because safety is the foundation of play, and play is how children grow brave. 💛

HOPE through PLAY ☀️ | | Treehouse PLAY Festival ⛳️

IMPORTANT UPDATE‼️
We’re sorry to share that the Treehouse Play Festival has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. We know many were looking forward to this day of play and connection, and we deeply apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience this may cause.

Treehouse at Aylesbury Vineyard, in partnership with and , is committed to supporting families who have experienced domestic abuse. Through Play Therapy, we help children heal from the emotional impact of trauma, while Parent Coaching empowers parent or
carers to rebuild connection and trust at home. 💛

Although the festival can’t go ahead today, our mission continues. We’re still raising funds to support families affected by domestic abuse through Play Therapy for
children and Parent Coaching to help rebuild connection at home.

For some families, change can bring worry, big feelings, or moments when a child seems “not quite themselves.”
Recent data shows how play therapy can make a difference, helping most children overcome difficulties, feel more settled, confident, and emotionally well. 💛

Our Play Therapy partnership at Aylesbury Vineyard Church is now under the Treehouse umbrella and has been renamed Treehouse Play Therapy. We love the new name and logo 👌🎉👍

We’d like to introduce you to ‘Treehouse’ – the new name for all our ministries providing practical and emotional support to families. We currently run Vibes Toddler Group, Growbaby (free clothes and supplies for under 5s and School Uniform), Smile (supporting fosters and adopters) and fund Pop Play therapy for families who have experienced domestic abuse (in partnership with Aylesbury Women’s Aid.) We’re launching Treehouse Teas in early 2026 and you can expect to hear more about Treehouse in the upcoming months!

For now, we’d love you to save the date for our upcoming Play Festival fundraiser – perfect for families during Half Term – that’s running on Thursday 30th October. More details about the event (including how to book onto our Neon Crazy Golf!) here: aylvin.ch/playfestival
