Maria and Mim met in Chesham this week to explore opportunities for our work there. We had a fab lunch and are hoping to rent some rooms at a local church for sessions, saving some of our clients a long drive to Aylesbury. We are hoping for a new charity partnership to support vulnerable families in the area too.

We'd like you all to meet Jess Gainfort, one of our brilliant Play Therapists here at POP.

With nearly twenty years of experience as a Primary School teacher, Jess brings deep empathy, insight, and a strong belief in every child’s potential to heal and grow. Her move into Play Therapy came from a desire to make a more lasting impact on young lives, and it’s been a joy to see the difference she makes.

Whether through the calm of a sand tray or the simple power of presence, Jess creates space for children to feel seen, safe, and supported.

Jess has open availability on Wednesday mornings this coming September term, and we’d love to connect her with families who feel she might be a good fit.

If you’re interested in finding out more or arranging a short introductory meeting, email us at info@powerofplaytherapy.co.uk.

“From Doubt to Discovery: How Suzie Found Depth in SandStory Skills®”
(A POP Wellbeing Play Skills course reflection)

Suzie began with scepticism, unsure how placing objects in sand could possibly support emotional wellbeing or offer real therapeutic value.

But what started out feeling awkward and unclear…
…grew into a process filled with trust, clarity, and a deep sense of connection—to herself and to others.

🌱 Her words reflect the quiet power of therapeutic play to unlock self-awareness and support the emotional development of children, young people, and even ourselves as practitioners.

We’re pleased to introduce Lucy Bell, Play Therapist at POP Therapy.

Lucy is a teacher, a mum, and a compassionate therapist who brings a calm, grounded presence into the therapy room. With over 15 years of experience in education, she understands children deeply. She recognises the impact emotional wellbeing has on how they learn, relate to others, and grow.

She sees play as more than just fun. It is a child’s natural way of communicating. For Lucy, Play Therapy is about creating a safe, accepting space where children can explore their feelings and find ways to express them. Her approach is gentle and steady, meeting each child exactly where they are, without pressure or expectation.

“How do you care for yourself?” 🛋️🍲🏊‍♀️

By the second day of an intense week in the Creative Arts Supervision course, Mim could already feel the tiredness settle in. There was still so much to take in and already, her body and mind were asking for something else: care.

So, she paused. Not dramatically, but just long enough to ask herself a quiet, grounding question: What do I need to feel supported today?

She responded with presence.

She went out and bought herself some food she genuinely enjoys. Something that brings her comfort, something that feels like her.

She made plans for a swim, sensing how much her body was craving movement after long stretches of sitting.

And then thought to buy "the Cushion".

A big, squishy, gloriously soft cushion that practically whispered, “Rest here.”
It didn’t have a price tag. And when it reached the till, the number surprised her — higher than expected.

She hesitated.
“It’s more than I’d like to spend,” she thought.
But she gave it another gentle squash and imagined the next four days of learning ahead.
Long sessions. Deep processing. A lot of sitting.

And just like that, the cushion made sense. It wasn’t just a purchase. Rather, it was a decision to meet her own needs with care. To create comfort in the midst of a demanding week. To sit well, so she could show up better.

That cushion became part of how she got through the week more comfortably, more focused, and more in tune with herself.

Because taking care of ourselves isn’t selfish. It’s necessary.
Especially when we’re learning. Especially when we’re giving.
Especially when we forget, and need reminding.

So today, whatever you’re doing and while you’re at it:

👉 How do you care for yourself?
👉 What do you need today to feel just a little more supported, present, and at ease?

It doesn’t have to be big.
But it does have to be kind.

What an incredible few days it’s been - inspiring, insightful, and profoundly moving for some of the POP team. 💡💛 Hearing Lisa Dion from Synergetic Play Therapy Institute speak was a reminder of how vital it is to equip therapists with the confidence and so we can sit with intensity and stay regulated through it. True healing becomes possible.

It was a chance to connect theory with real presence, filling hearts with so much joy, having a wonderful chance to connect with fellow therapists, and share space with a wider network of passionate professionals, all walking the same path, building skills, and growing together.

Mim Jannetta has stayed on to learn the art of Creative Supervision this week. Such an uplifting, fulfilling experience she has had already.
