What Reiki Is Not.

There’s a lot of misunderstanding around Reiki.

So before anything else, let’s gently clear a few things up.

Reiki is not hypnosis.
You remain fully aware and in control throughout.

It’s not religious.
There’s no belief system required.

It’s not about diagnosing or “fixing” you.
Nothing is imposed on your body or mind.

And it’s not something mystical that overrides your will.

Reiki is simply a gentle, non-invasive practice that supports relaxation and nervous system regulation.

You don’t have to believe in it.
You don’t have to understand it.
You don’t have to be “spiritual.

You just have to be willing to lie down, breathe, and allow your system a little space to settle.

Sometimes clarity begins with removing the fear.

Rooted in tradition. Offered with gentleness.

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice that supports relaxation, balance, and overall wellbeing. It works by encouraging the body to shift out of stress and into a calmer, more settled state allowing space for rest, clarity, and gentle self-healing.

Reiki is non-invasive and always led by your own needs.
Some people notice deep relaxation, others feel grounded or emotionally lighter. There's no right or wrong way to experience it.

At Geddes Wellbeing Studio, Reiki is offered in a calm, supportive space where you're welcome to arrive exactly as you are.

A gentle note on where Reiki comes from.

Reiki is a form of energy-based practice that originated in Japan in the early 1900s.

It was developed by Mikao Usui, who was interested in how people might support balance, calm, and wellbeing through simple, non-invasive means.

At its core, Reiki isn’t about diagnosing or fixing anything.
It’s based on the idea that the body has its own capacity to regulate and restore when the conditions are supportive.

Over time, Reiki has been shared and adapted across different cultures, but the original emphasis remains the same: simplicity, presence, and respect for the person receiving it.

Today, many people use Reiki as a way to slow down, reconnect with their body, and experience a sense of rest, especially in a world that often feels busy or overwhelming.

As with any supportive practice, everyone’s experience is different. There’s no expectation to feel anything in particular, and no belief is required.

Just a willingness to pause.

When you've spent time around other people, strong emotions, or busy environments, it's natural for your system to feel a little heavy or overstimulated.

In Usui Reiki, there's an emphasis on simple, physical practices that help you reset and come back to yourself.

This is one you can try at the end of the day.

Standing or sitting comfortably,
use slow, intentional movements to gently brush down the body from shoulders to hips,
and then from the centre of the body outward.

There's no need to visualise anything or force a result.

The intention isn't to remove or fix, but to support separation from the day and a return to your own space and rhythm.

Many people find this helpful after work, emotional conversations, or before settling into the evening.

As always, move gently and listen to what feels right for you.

Gentle practices support sustainability.

You don't need to have everything figured out to take care of yourself.

Sometimes support looks like action. Sometimes it looks like rest.
And sometimes it looks like doing nothing at all and letting your system catch up.

If today felt heavy,
or unfinished,
or just a lot
that's okay.

You're allowed to move through life at a pace that feels sustainable for you.

There's no rush here.

Starting something new can bring up questions.

You might be curious about Reiki but unsure what actually happens in a session, or whether it's the right kind of support for you.

It's normal to arrive with uncertainty and you don't need to have anything figured out beforehand.

What you can expect from your first Reiki session:

Your first session is designed to be calm, gentle, and supportive.

There’s no need to prepare in any special way
and no expectation to talk more than you’re comfortable with.

We’ll begin with a brief check-in,
simply to understand what’s brought you here
and what would feel most supportive for you.

During the session, you’ll be invited to lie down fully clothed
in a quiet, comfortable space.
Many people choose to rest,
close their eyes, or focus on their breathing.

Some people notice warmth or a sense of relaxation.
Some feel emotional release or grounding.
Others simply feel rested.

All of these experiences are valid —
and there’s no right or wrong way to receive Reiki.

The session moves at your pace,
with no pressure to feel, do, or understand anything.

Afterwards, there’s time to gently re-orient
before returning to the rest of your day.

You're welcome to arrive exactly as you are.

If you feel this might be supportive for you, sessions can be booked online | link in bio 👆

This space opens from Monday the 5th.

A place for calm, grounding, and gentle support
when life feels busy, overwhelming, or quietly heavy.

They’re about creating the right conditions
for your system to settle and rebalance in its own time.

Every session is different.
Every body responds in it's own way.

If you’ve been feeling the need to slow down,
to rest more deeply, or to simply be supported without pressure, this space is now open to you.

Some forms of calm come from openness.
Others come from being held.

From structure.
From steadiness.
From knowing there is a space where nothing is demanded of you.

Reiki offers that kind of support.

Not by directing or correcting,
but by providing a safe, settled environment
where your system can slow down
and return to its own balance.

You don’t need to arrive with a clear intention.
You don’t need to know what you’re feeling.
You don’t need to explain yourself.

The work meets you where you are, quietly, respectfully, and without force.

Sometimes healing doesn’t feel like movement at all.
Sometimes it feels like stillness.

And sometimes, that’s exactly what’s needed.

You don't need to start the day feeling motivated.
Or positive.
Or "ready".

Some mornings are just about arriving.

Feeling your feet on the floor. Taking a breath that actually reaches your chest. Letting the day meet you where you are.

Reiki doesn't rush that process. It supports your system gently, especially on the days when energy feels low or everything feels a bit heavy.

Today doesn't need to be productive. It just needs to be lived, one steady moment at a time.

Sometimes we only realise how tired we are
when we finally stop.

Not the kind of stopping where you scroll,
distract, or push through —
but the kind where nothing is required of you.

No talking it through.
No analysing.
No needing to make sense of anything.

Just a quiet moment
where your body can soften
and your nervous system can begin to settle.

Reiki works in that space.

It doesn’t override you
or demand change.

It supports your system to do
what it already knows how to do —
regulate, rebalance, and restore
in its own way,
at its own pace.

Some people describe feeling calmer.
Some feel more grounded.
Some simply notice they’re breathing
more easily afterward.

And sometimes the effect shows up later —
in better sleep,
a lighter mood,
or a sense of steadiness
that’s hard to put into words.

There’s no right outcome.
No correct response.

Just a safe, quiet space
to pause
and allow your body
a little support. 🌿

Sometimes the most supportive thing you can experience
isn’t insight, or catharsis, or a breakthrough.

It’s steadiness.

A sense that nothing is being asked of you.
That you don’t need to explain yourself.
That your body can stop bracing for a moment.

Reiki isn’t about fixing what’s “wrong.”
It’s about creating the conditions where your system can settle
and reorganise in its own time.

For some people, that feels like rest.
For others, it feels like clarity, grounding,
or a gentle emotional release.

And sometimes it feels very subtle —
almost unnoticeable at first.

All of those experiences are valid.

There’s no correct way to receive Reiki.
No expectation to feel anything in particular.
No belief required.

Just space.

And permission to pause long enough
to listen to what your body already knows.

This page exists for those moments
when life feels busy, loud, or overwhelming,
and you need something steady to return to.

Every session is different,
because every person is different.
