I’m not sure if I’ve just not taken the time to notice but there’s suddenly an increase in leaves on the ground this morning and the beginning of Autumn starting to creep in. I personally love this time of year as it cools a little and the trees change to many shades of colour. Change can be difficult and I know the cooler months can be particularly difficult for many.

Change can also offer an opportunity for reflection and increased self awareness. What has been the highlight of summer for you? What have you learnt about yourself?

This week I have come to the end of therapy with 2 clients, we say it’s the end but that’s not always the case as the ending doesn’t have to be permanent.
But when is the right time to end? Well the only person who can answer that is the client.

Some clients come to therapy with specific goals in mind, and once they are achieved they are happy to end. Some clients view therapy as another form of continual self care, like having a regular beauty treatment. There is no right or wrong answer, only what is right for you.

And as I said, once it’s over that doesn’t have to be forever, you might return to therapy for a “check in” or make a conscious decision to set a new goal and end when that is complete. Clients are always welcome to come back, or work with a different therapist, it’s the clients choice.

My view on endings, I will miss our regular sessions, I have got to know you and have been honoured to hear about your experiences, thoughts and feelings; some you might not be able to, or want to share with anyone else. But I will also be incredibly proud for you, that you now feel in a place where you are comfortable to continue your life without my support.

And my door remains open if you ever want to come back for regular or one off sessions.

Taking time out is really important to allow yourself time to rest and breathe. I’m spending time this week connecting with family and nature, allowing myself to have a bit of a break and a reset so that I can be at my best for myself, my family, my friends and my clients. Make sure you allow yourself time to reset and recharge.

It’s mental health awareness week this week, and this year the theme is community. As human beings we are social creatures and our community is what helps us get through the bad times and celebrate the good times.
Your community might not be big, it might be your family, a friend who you’ve known for a couple of years or you might have multiple communities in craft groups or other social groups. Your communities are really good for your mental health.

What or who is your community?

Life seems quite busy at the moment and I’m wondering if it’s the new opportunities to embrace the outdoors a bit more with the longer, drier and hopefully warmer days.

I’ve had a couple of new clients over the last few weeks, it’s always a joy and honour to meet new people and hear about their life and ways I hope to support them.

Here is a picture of a plant that I was given last year from my children, it hasn’t flowered for months and I wasn’t sure that it ever would again, but here it is showing new possibilities.

I was recommended this book as a resource to support my work with a client who wants to work on low self-esteem.

So far it’s a good read and there’s definitely takeaways that I can use with myself, as we are all works in progress!

Sometimes life throws us curve balls! Unfortunately the environment at my Therapy space changed and I was no longer able to provide the confidential space that is so important for therapy to take place.

Going forward, my in person sessions will take place at the Matlock Therapy Centre.

Having 15minutes this morning to have a cup of tea in the garden and taking the opportunity to read a few more pages of this book. “Man’s search for meaning” by Viktor E Frankl.

Viktor was a survivor of Auschwitz and other concentration camps and writes about his experiences and observations of how humans adapt and cope.

This little gadget plays a big part in our sessions, it allows me to make sure we end our sessions on time, but there is more behind ending our sessions on time than just punctuality.

Part of our work together is understanding boundaries, and by starting and ending at a specific time I am modelling and supporting you in experiencing maintained boundaries. That is why I plan for our sessions to end within an hour and part of the reason why your session cannot be extended if you are late.

Maintaining boundaries can feel uncomfortable, but it’s really important that we are able to put them in place as they keep us safe and well.

What boundaries are you good at holding, and where would it feel beneficial to have stronger boundaries?

There’s something about spring, with its daffodils and bright blue sky that just makes everything feel that little bit better. It’s a fresh start for spring full of possibilities, are you able to take a bit of that positive energy for yourself?

Can you think of one hopeful thought that you can hold onto today?

I thought it might be nice to show the view for my in person clients, I would normally be in the blue chair.
Like all things in life, I expect that this space will evolve as time goes on, but for now, this is the physical space that I provide.

How are you?

Sometimes it can be quite difficult to know where to start when I ask how you are, and sometimes you might not know or be able to voice your feelings. These are some of the times I may offer the use of tools such as emotions cards like these. They can help you to connect with your inner thoughts and feelings and increase your self awareness.

Do any of these seem familiar to how you are feeling at the moment?
