Wishing everyone good health, strength, and a bit more peace in everyday life 💚🐰

Life can be unpredictable and sometimes overwhelming so don’t forget to slow down when you need to, ask for help when things feel heavy and take care of yourself the same way you take care of others.

Even small moments of calm and support can make a big difference.

And over Easter, I hope you get a moment to rest, recharge… and maybe enjoy a few too many chocolate eggs without any guilt 🐣🍫😋

A lovely trip to the shops today with Pat! :)

At 96 years young, she still enjoys going round the shop herself and choosing exactly what she wants, and I absolutely love that! There’s something so important about keeping that independence, no matter your age.

It’s never just “doing the shopping”. It’s routine, conversation, choices, familiar aisles, and a little sense of normality.

These moments might seem small, but they matter so much.. 💚

My clients clearly know me VERY well 😂

I received two essentials for survival:
- A meditation book,
- Pistachio & clotted cream biscuits..
Now… I’ve never actually managed a proper meditation session in my life… But biscuits? Oh, I’m fully qualified in those 😋
Maybe this is the universe telling me it’s time to find balance, one deep breath and one biscuit at a time!

All jokes aside, I feel incredibly lucky to work with such thoughtful people. It’s the small gestures that mean the most 💚

A little catch-up & something really important ‼️

I owe you a small apology. I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately as work has been very busy (in the best possible way😊).
But I wanted to come on and share something I think is really important, especially for families supporting older adults or anyone living with memory difficulties.

Have you heard of the Herbert Protocol?

The Herbert Protocol is a simple but powerful tool designed to help keep vulnerable people safe if they ever go missing. It’s mainly used for people living with dementia, memory problems, learning disabilities, or other conditions that may cause confusion or disorientation.

❓What is it?
It’s a form that families or carers complete with important information such as:
- recent photos,
- usual routines,
- places the person likes to visit,
- medical needs,
- ways they might communicate.

This information is kept safely and can be shared quickly with the police if someone goes missing, saving precious time and reducing stress for everyone involved.

💻 How do you apply?
You can complete the Herbert Protocol online, just search “Herbert Protocol UK”, and you’ll find the form easily. It doesn’t take long, but it can make a huge difference.

Why is it so important?
Because even people who are usually very capable can have moments of confusion. Having this information ready means faster support, safer outcomes, and peace of mind for families and carers.

If you support someone who might be at risk, I really recommend looking into it. It’s one of those things you hope you’ll never need, but you’ll be very glad it’s there if you do.

If you’d like help understanding it or filling it in, feel free to get in touch 💚.

Meet Zara 🐱 – my most enthusiastic little assistant

Zara absolutely loves coming with me to visit some of my clients.
She may be small, hairless, and slightly convinced she’s in charge… but she takes her job very seriously 😉

Every time we go to see J at the nursing home, the routine is pretty much the same:
✨ keep him company
✂️ trim his hair
💅 tidy up his nails
💬 have a proper chat (Zara listens… sometimes)

J is well cared for in the nursing home, but like many people, he still needs stimulation, human connection, and those little personal jobs done that often get missed.
That’s where I step in.

J’s family live overseas and can’t always be there for him, so I make sure someone is.

If you have a loved one in a nursing home and:
• you can’t visit as often as you’d like
• you worry they might be feeling lonely
• you want an extra pair of trained eyes checking how they’re really doing

I’m your person.

I’ve worked in nursing homes, I know how they operate from the inside, and I know what to look for, what matters, and how to help properly.

And if Zara can brighten the visit along the way… even better 🐾💕

📩 Feel free to message me if you’d like me to check in on someone you love...

When your clients know exactly what you need for Christmas…

Meet my new “Grow your own boyfriend” 😂
Never argues. Always agrees. Doesn’t snore.
Honestly? Sounds like a Christmas miracle 🎅✨

Are you all ready for Christmas?

Santa has been spotted… and yes, he’s checking his list twice 👀🎅
The big question is: have you been good this year? 😄

At My Nest, we’ve been spreading festive cheer, smiles, and a little bit of Christmas magic ❤️
Because Christmas isn’t just about presents, it’s about moments, laughter, and feeling cared for 💚

🎁 Were you good or mostly good this year? 😜

I was flicking through The Banchory Fly magazine, and this really caught my eye: Eating in the UK in the 1950s.
It made me stop and think… so I checked what it looked like in Poland at the same time.

Have a look 👀

Eating in Poland in the 1950s

• Food was about survival, not choice
• Meat was rare and precious
• Sugar, flour and fat were rationed
• Bananas and oranges were almost mythical
• Coffee meant barley or chicory
• Tea was weak and reused
• White bread was a luxury
• Butter was replaced with lard
• Soup was eaten daily
• Potatoes were the base of almost every meal
• Rice was for rice pudding or special occasions
• Yoghurt was homemade (if at all)
• Pizza, pasta and kebabs didn’t exist
• Olive oil was unheard of
• Spices meant salt… and maybe pepper
• Fish was carp at Christmas
• Tinned food was a treasure
• Eating out wasn’t a thing, you ate at home
• Wasting food was a sin
• “Healthy food” meant there is food
• And the one thing you always had at the table…
respect for bread, and gratitude for every bite.

Different countries, slightly different stories, but one thing in common: food was about getting by, not choosing from 20 options.

Fast-forward to today and…
we can order food online, from the sofa, in pyjamas, without even leaving the house 😅
Luxury, really, even if we don’t always notice it.

Makes you appreciate how far we’ve come… and maybe smile a little too.. :)

🚗 Need help getting to appointments?

The Royal Voluntary Service offers a Community Transport Service for adults who cannot access public transport or have no other means of getting to appointments.

Their friendly volunteer drivers can help with transport to:
• GP, hospital, dentist or optician appointments
• Social clubs and hairdressers
• Visiting family or friends in hospital or care homes

It is a 1–1 service, using the volunteers’ own vehicles, and is available across Aberdeenshire.

“Seen it all. Done it all. Can’t remember most of it.” 😂

I found this on a coaster today and honestly… if that isn’t the most accurate description of half of the people I support (and most of us too!), I don’t know what is. 😅

Memory can be a funny thing, sometimes it’s sharp like a knife, and sometimes it just packs its bags and goes on holiday without notice. 🙈
But what truly matters is the kindness, patience and humour we meet it with. 🤗

A little forgetfulness is part of being human.
A lot of forgetfulness can be part of ageing, stress, or conditions like dementia.
And in each of these situations, a good laugh and a warm heart go a long way.

At My Nest I always say:
It’s easier to face the hard moments when we can smile together. 🤗
And trust me, even when someone doesn’t remember every detail… they do remember how you made them feel !

So let’s keep supporting, understanding, and yes - laughing about our little human flaws. 😅💚
