Yoga is so much more than poses

When many people think of yoga, they picture flowing sequences, flexible bodies, and picture-perfect postures. But the real practice is so much deeper.

Yoga invites us to pause. To sit with our thoughts. To ask questions about who we are, what matters, and how we want to move through the world. It’s about exploring personal morals, finding balance between discipline and ease, and connecting with life in a way that feels grounded and exciting.

Some days, yoga is about the mat. Other days, it’s about the conversations you have with yourself when you’re still and listening.

The beauty of this practice is that it gives us tools to live with more intention, joy, and fulfillment—not just for an hour, but in every moment of life.

ABS!!! Why?
Physically: our core, is literally that! It is the centre of our bodies and helps us maintain function of the upper and lower body together. Not only that it supports our backs, steadies our hips, helps us breathe and so so much more. We always sequence abs in practice for safety and connection.
Emotionally: our gut (second brain). A place of intuition - that gut feeling. Where we digest emotions (and food) and an area that holds a lot of emotion. We can feel nervousness here, excitement, worry, love…get I tune with the emotions of your gut, you can learn a lot when you start to understand your core!
Energetically: let’s consider the 1st 3 Chakras. Our root, sacral and solar plexus. These 3 areas hold a huge compass of energy: from stability, safety, security and steadiness, to creativity, sexuality, flow, to personal power, drive, focus and excitement.
Again when we get to know our gut, core, abs….we have the opportunity to get to know even more about ourselves. And remove ourselves from the often unsteady fluctuations of the mind. Abs help us get into our bodies and out of our minds.

In yoga, the Yamas and Niyamas are like the roots of the tree — guiding how we live both outwardly and inwardly.

The Yamas are how we relate to the world:
(non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, moderation, non-attachment)

The Niyamas are how we care for our inner world:
1. Shaucha – Cleanliness
2. Santosha – Contentment
3. Tapas – Discipline
4. Svadhyaya – Self-study
5. Ishvara Pranidhana – Surrender to the greater
