Jez has been practising yoga for the past twenty years and is passionate about sharing the benefits she has seen with others. Her personal practice has not only improved her physical health and fitness but additionally she has found benefit from the balancing effects on her mental and emotional wellbeing. She has completed her 500 hours advanced teacher training, immersing herself in ashram life in the Himalayas and then in Tamil Nadu. She has deepened her spiritual knowledge through continued practice and study and enjoys taking part in kiirtan, Kaoshikii dancing and chanting & meditation using mantras. Jez takes a holistic approach to yoga and incorporates asanas, breathing techniques, meditation, mindfulness and colour therapy techniques as appropriate. She is a fully qualified colour therapist and offers this as private consultations as well and using her knowledge in classes in relation to the chakras and body systems.
Raja Dhiraja yoga was first developed over 2000 years ago and is the most complete and all round systematic process for the development of body, mind and soul. It focuses on alignment, proper positioning and good posture, develops strength and flexibility, balances the secretion of hormones restoring psychic and emotional wellbeing, correct breathing, and a quiet but persistent flow of movement. Time is always given for deep relaxation for assimilation of the results of the physical asana practice and to rejuvenate and revive oneself. ‘Raja’ means ‘royal’, implying that the yogi never feels subjugated by anyone. This is very much Jez’s aim through her teaching and her path is to bring yoga to everyone, including those who don’t think they can do yoga for whatever reasons! Yoga truly is for every body.
Jez is an inspiring, compassionate and knowledgeable teacher who thrives on supporting her students to achieve their higher potential. She specialises in 1:1 and 1:2 private lessons to provide a more personalised programme of development and also runs regular beginners and general/ intermediate classes, and groups specifically for sports – martial arts/ surfing/ climbing. Additionally she is also qualified to teach SUP (stand up paddleboard) yoga, a fun new way to increase your proprioception and balance. Paddleboard yoga is a light-hearted interpretation of a traditional practice and strips down the ego and attachment to the poses (a great reminder for all yogis!). It’s also an excellent way to tell if you are performing your yoga poses correctly – if you put too much weight through one side of your body, the board will react. No experience is necessary and the worst thing that can happen is that you’ll get wet! She holds regular classes throughout the summer on a beautiful, peaceful lake.
