A little late posting this - but on Saturday 21st June after my sunrise solstice class I had the privilege of speaking on with my soul sister on the John Toal show!

We spoke about yoga, the significance of the solstice, I taught John some moves live on radio AND we even got a bodhrΓ‘n lesson!

You can still listen back on the BBC Sounds app for another couple of weeks (skip to 1:15). Link below but I'll also pop it in my bio 🫢

Some new followers here so I thought I'd introduce myself πŸ‘‹

I'm Olivia. I'm a hatha, restorative and menopause yoga teacher but I also work full time for a mental health charity as a wellbeing advisor and occasional yoga instructor.

I did my 200hrs in Santosha in Lisburn in 2022 (final exam was 2 days before our wedding, it was a big weekend!!) 🫢

I first went to India in 2019 and travelled around Rajasthan. I wanted to do my 200 hours here but then COVID happened. I'm heading back to India this November to do my 300hrs in Goa and I can't wait! πŸ₯°

I live in Belfast with my husband Shane and our bow tie wearing tabby cat Enzo. πŸˆβ€β¬›

I have one regular class a week at the moment in Lotus Wellness in Bangor. I mostly cover classes in The Den, OM, Yoga Quarter and Queen's PEC. I work with Lagan Valley Regional Park to deliver seasonal outdoor yoga events. I am also able to do corporate yoga or hen parties.

Aside from yoga, I have too many hobbies.
I love going to gigs, hiking, going to the gym, all things art related (I recently got into pottery!), gardening, reading, paddle boarding and I've also been learning how to roller skate! πŸ›Ό

Thanks for reading and I hope to see some of you on the mat soon πŸ™

What a special morning at the Giant's Ring with a yoga practice to mark the summer solstice 🌞

Summer solstice is a turning point in the year. Where the sun is highest in the sky, the longest day and the shortest night. It was a time of gathering, community, ceremony and fire πŸ”₯ We had no fire this morning (thankfully!) but we had such a lovely sense of community as everyone came together to mark this special day 🌞🌿

It was my second year doing this at the Giant's Ring and the sun was shining on us again this year 🌞

Giant's Ring was an incredible venue for solstice yoga as it is an ancient neolithic tomb even older than the pyramids 🀯 People gathered here before us for thousands of years for ceremony and ritual. It's thought that the site could have been used as an amphitheatre (definitely not for defence as the inner walls are too steep!). You could really feel the connection to the land and our ancestors this morning as we all came together 🌿🌞

Thank you to all the early birds who joined me this morning, it was a pleasure πŸ’•

🌸 Spring Equinox altar in the woods at this morning 🌱

Spring Equinox is a time for renewal, rebirth and fertility. Spring lambs are starting to appear, daffodils trumpet up towards the sky and crocuses dot around tree trunks. Nature is starting to emerge from hibernation and so are we 🌸🌱

The day and night are of equal length today, and from today onwards the days will gradually get longer and longer β˜€οΈ πŸŒ™
A welcome sight after a long winter. We can begin to shed our winter cloaks (metaphorically and physically) and open ourselves up to the freshness and vitality that spring brings.

Traditional Celtic symbols of spring include the egg πŸ₯š (a sign of fertility and rebirth) and the hare (which is thought to be where the Easter bunny comes from πŸ‡)

What a joyful morning spent outside in the Lagan Meadows and such a special way to mark the start of spring with 13 other yogis this morning. It was worth the 5.30am start!

More outdoor yoga events with Lagan Valley Regional Park coming soon 🏞️

Looking forward to incorporating my learnings with into my classes.
I've really enjoyed deepening my understanding of women's health over the last few months and although peri menopause is a while off for me yet, I'll be able to support my students and friends / family with my learnings 🩷

Feeling very reflective after attending my first yoga class as a student since September (πŸ™ˆ) this afternoon.
I couldn't wait to get home to scribble in my journal after. Here's a snippet of what I wrote, maybe it'll resonate with you 🩷

"Today was my first time going to a yoga class that wasn't my own since September. The mat has been laid out at home but I've found it hard to dedicate time to my own practice - when I'm at home I often find the 'monkey mind' to be most distracting, thinking about other things I should be doing or ticking off things on the seemingly never ending to-do list. Today made me remember how much value there is in attending a yoga class in a dedicated space with a room full of other people. The co-regulation of energy in the room or group effervescence from all being together doing the same thing is so powerful and we lost that feeling during COVID, it's still only starting to come back My preferred kind of yoga is the yoga practiced in a community, not behind a computer screen with cameras turned off."

I hope my classes can be welcoming spaces for people to come to whenever they need to return to their practice in a dedicated safe space, if they do not find this to be easily accessible at home πŸ™

Practice with me this week on Wednesday 8.15-9.30pm restorative yoga .yogastudio
