A Very Special Visitor at Mais House!

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Nala the African pygmy hedgehog to Mais House today, all the way from Huffy Hedgehogs Rescue Arborfield

Nala arrived with her lovely human friends, Chris and Sarah, who helped our residents learn all about this tiny bundle of cuteness.
A highlight of the visit was seeing Evie, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday, absolutely delighted to meet Nala.

Several other residents also had the chance to enjoy some hedgehog cuddles and curiosity!

A huge thank you to our friends at Veterans’ Growth for arranging this wonderful experience. Moments like these bring so much joy to our home.

🎉 Happy 100th Birthday, Evie! 🎉

Today we celebrate an incredible milestone for an extraordinary lady.

Evie turns 100 years young, and what a remarkable life she has lived!

At just 17 years old, Evie proudly joined the WRENS, serving her country with dedication and courage for four years.

Her strength, spirit, and service continue to inspire everyone who knows her.

These days, Evie’s happiest moments are spent surrounded by her loving family — and of course, with any animals she can fuss over.

Her kindness, humour, and warmth brighten every room she enters.

✨ Happy Birthday, Evie — here’s to a century of memories, love, and laughter.
You are truly one in a million. 💙🐾

Yesterday we welcomed an incredible guest to Mais House — Jason Holbrook, who pitched his tent right here in our beautiful garden.

Jason is walking the entire UK coastline — 11,023 miles! All to raise money for charity and shine a light on men’s mental health.

He’s been on the road for 14 months already, with another two years to go. What an inspiring journey.

Burns Day Lunch at Mais House

What a fantastic time we’ve had celebrating Burns Day with our residents, families, and team. The dining room was filled with tartan, laughter, and the wonderful sounds of Scottish music as everyone came together for a hearty traditional lunch.

Our chefs treated us to a delicious menu inspired by the best of Scotland, and the team made sure the atmosphere was full of warmth, pride, and a touch of poetry. It was a joy to see residents raising a toast, and enjoying the spirit of the day.

A huge thank you to our staff for creating such a memorable celebration — and to our residents for bringing the heart and soul to every event we hold at Mais House.

🎄✨ What an Afternoon to Remember! ✨🎄

Yesterday, we had an absolutely wonderful time at our Mulled Wine & Mince Pie Afternoon with residents, families, staff, and visitors. The atmosphere was filled with warmth, laughter, and festive cheer!

From our cake stall and poppy shop to Guess the Teddy’s Name, the raffle, and the bric-a-brac stall, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

And the highlight? Father Christmas himself joined us! 🎅 He loved spending time with the children and residents and hopes everyone who sat with him enjoys their special gift bag.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported us – your kindness and generosity mean so much. ❤️

We’ll be sharing the total amount raised very soon, and we can’t wait to use it to book some fantastic entertainment for our residents in the near future.

✨ What a magical day at Mais House! ✨

Today, we were treated to an incredible performance of Aladdin by Eva Long Productions – and wow, what a show! 🎭

Our residents and staff were swept away by the laughter, fun, and sparkle of the performance. The day ended on a high note with a fantastic Christmas sing-along that filled the room with festive cheer! 🎄🎶

Armistice Day at Mais House – A Moment of Reflection and Remembrance

This morning, our residents, families, and team came together in the dining room at Mais House RBL Nursing Home to honour Armistice Day with a heartfelt service of remembrance.

At 10:45am, we paused to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many, with readings, music, and a two-minute silence that brought a deep sense of unity and gratitude. The room was beautifully prepared, with poppies and tributes lovingly arranged to create a peaceful and respectful atmosphere.

It was especially moving to see residents and family members sharing time together, reminding us all of the importance of keeping these moments alive for future generations.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this service so special — your care and dedication truly shone through.

History came alive at Crowhurst Primary School

Two of our amazing residents from Mais House joined our driver Paul for a very special visit. The pupils are currently learning about World War II, so who better to share real-life stories than those who lived through it?

One of our residents even brought along a fascinating collection of personal artefacts and spoke about what it was like growing up in Britain during the War. The children were captivated, and it was a wonderful way to connect generations and bring history off the page.

A huge thank you to Crowhurst Primary School and their fantastic pupils for making us feel so welcome. We hope you enjoyed learning from experience as much as we enjoyed sharing it!
