P.S.

✍ HYPOXIA [big word] - is when you don't have enough oxygen in your tissues.

SYMPTOMS include: shortness of breath, fast breathing, bluish skin, fast heart rate, restlessness, confusion, dizziness, pins & needles sensations.

πŸ” Most of my clients (over-breathers) are just on the 'slightly healthier side of hypoxia' but where 'SUB-OPTIMAL' symptoms are still present and they don't have optimal oxygen levels in their tissues, due to their deteriorated breathing habits.

SYMPTOMS can include: breathlessness, increased anxiety, panic attacks, mouth breathing, snoring, poor sleep, tiredness, tight upper chest, chronic stress, slow recovery, limited performance.

Noticed your breath quicken the last couple of days? Noticed a tension building in your body?

Although it is important that we educate ourselves, it is also important that we can cope with daily life.

I've personally had a clash of a drop of oestrogen in my menstrual cycle (which quickens breathing) with the most recent news events. It is images of uncertainty, suffering and pleas on every channel, bombarding our nervous systems.

My husband kindly reminded me that algorithms show you more of what you have been consuming. It was getting a bit too much and I was starting to not want to look at my phone (not necessarily a bad thing, but I have a job to do which requires social media).

Having recently started following news accounts on Instagram, I realised that these were the main culprits for making me feel so on edge and affecting my breathing so quickly.

So I muted them.

It feels so much safer to go into Instagram now to work and to continue my self development. I still check the news when I am able and ready, but I have taken away the constant barrage.

Luckily I know how to step my breathing down, just as I teach my clients, but boy have I needed these hacks this week!

"Mummy, I'm hungry", she says at 4am.

"Are you sure? Why don't you just have a little cuddle?" I say.

"No mummy, I'm hungry, I want porridge." She insists.

By 4.30am I'm back in bed, with her tucked in next to me, promising to be quiet and still.

At 5am I am still awake and hear my husband letting himself in from the garden room, where he is encouraged to escape for a good night's sleep without disturbances. He works a manual shift work job so his early shift pattern starts soon.

I still can't sleep (which is unusual for me) so I get up do a bit of work whilst the house is quiet.

MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMY! I hear from upstairs in between sobs. She's woken and I wasn't there. Work is abandoned.

We have more food, play puzzles, tea parties and have cuddles. She watches Netflix whilst I shower.

Eventually the nutrition club I've been trialling opens, so I get her dressed and out the door before 7am as somewhere to go until nursery opens.

At 8am my alarm goes off, "Oh look darling, that's our wake up alarm", I say, dreaming of a few more hours sleep.

By 9am she's dropped at nursery and I'm taking the 20 minute walk back to my desk via a sign up at the gym. My body feels like lead and I can't bring myself to actually work out today, so I'm grateful when they say I have to book an appointment anyway.

10am - I'm home and would usually be starting with my first client of the day but they cancelled last night and I had one gap after them. I have loads of admin and business planning to do but I can barely bring myself to keep my eyes open or my feet moving forward....

SO I WENT BACK TO BED!

For an hour and a half.

I taped my mouth like I do each night.

At 11.30 I woke feeling more refreshed and so grateful to myself for having listened to my body rather than just pushing through.

This afternoon I have a meeting with my business coach, client sessions and admin until 6pm when I'll collect my daughter from nursery and start all over again. Parenting with a shift worker alongside your own business is full on. I miss unbroken sleep.
