SUN PROTECTION…. I know what you’re saying, you’ve heard this all before 😉
Then why is it that skin cancer is a major public health concern here in the uk. 1 in 4 men and 1 in 5 women will develop skin cancer at least once in their lifetime… shocking statistics hey!

So here I am again, the sun has decided to finally make an appearance and how good it feels😊

But there is also another benefit from Sun protection. Apart from preventing skin cancer which should be everyone’s primary concern, it also helps prevent accelerated ageing of the skin and conditions associated with it such as; pigmentation, lines and wrinkles, dehydration, redness, loss of laxity and the list goes on…

So a quick reminder of how to stay safe in the sun …

🌱avoid the mid day sun
🌱use SPF 30+
🌱wear a wide brim hat
🌱treat yourself to a pair of good quality large sunglasses
🌱take shade whenever possible
🌱keep yourself well hydrated. Carry water with you everywhere.
🌱remember children’s skins are at its most vulnerable, they rely on you to help keep them safe.

More on the subject of SpF’s later

In the meantime enjoy the sun safely.

Picture one - my favourite SPF I use all year round.
Picture Two - my trusty sun hat and shoulders always covered in the midday sun.

Any questions on how sun protection can benefit your skin. Drop me a message

ARE YOU SECOND GUESSING YOUR WAY THROUGH BUYING SKIN CARE?

It’s a mine field out there I know. And it doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s finding a small number of products that is going to do all the hard work for you.

As a skin therapist what can I do to help tackle this minefield?
🌱The first step is to have a skin consultation and I always recommend to bring with you your current products so we can have a look at them together. I’m sure there is something in there already that we can continue to use.
🌱I will advise you on the ingredients you should be looking out for with your skin type and condition in mind.
🌱I will help you to understand your skin, and the importance of listening to your skin, when or when not to use a particular product.
🌱and I am always available if there’s a question about a product you may have.

Contact me for a consultation on line or in clinic. I look forward to hearing from you.

Does your skin feel smooth or more on the bumpy side? In other words, what is your Skin texture?

Skin texture varies, from skin just feeling dry or the presence of large pores, to more advanced damage such as scarring or acne scarring.

In order to improve skin texture we need to first improve hydration and exfoliation and sometimes that can just be enough to achieve a brighter, smoother complexion. But other conditions such as acne scarring require more advanced non invasive treatments such as RF (radio frequency) and or Micro-needling - Skinpen. These treatments encourages re-modelling of the collagen, increasing its production and strengthening of its elastins.

So take a moment and have a gentle feel of your skin and get in touch to see how I can help you achieve a smoother and healthier texture.

So I recently turned 51 and received this wonderful birthday card from my lovely boys 😉 I’m not sure if it’s referring to my present state of peri-menopause or, something much nicer ☺️…. But it’s the thought that count’s.

Which brings me to the subject of, are you peri-menopausal or menopausal?
Are you noticing many changes with your mood, body and skin?

And How does the menopause affect your skin you may ask?

Oestrogen plays a huge part in keeping our collagen and hydration levels optimal which is essential for good skin health. But during this period in life our oestrogen levels declines resulting in water loss, drier skins, lines and wrinkles, triggering of acne, redness and flushing and more.
Does this sound familiar?

Speaking from experience, here are 3 things that have helped me during this crazy period.

🌱talk to your nearest and dearest, let them know how you are feeling. Their support is paramount.
🌱speak to your GP and discuss the many options of treatments that can help you. For me HRT has been a gamechanger.
🌱eat well and take long walks or engage in any activity that makes you feel good.
🌱book an appointment with a skin specialist such as myself to help you manage the changes within your skin and make you feel fabulous again!

My Story

I am Lorraine Avanessian, a certified skin therapist in Advance Skin Science CIBTAC.

Your skin works incredibly hard as a protective barrier against changing weather conditions, pollution, lifestyle products, dietary choices and many other variables.

It can be overwhelming finding the correct skincare for your condition if you are unaware of what factors are effecting your skin, for example, harsh ingredients that may exist in your current skin products, poor choices in diet and life style. My mission is to simplify the search and solution by helping your skin condition with clean, safe and clinically proven products and treatments.

Having embarked on my own 'skin journey' of research, skin health and management courses, I would like to share my experience and expertise to help those with skin concerns. Coming to my own conclusion that the simplest of treatments had the capability to make me look and feel my best, I decided to embark on a "skin journey" by enrolling in various skin health and management courses, I am certified to level 4 Diploma CIBTAC in Advance Skin Science, Investigative consultation and advance skin assessment, chemical peeling and micro needling. I am also certified to level 4 VCTC in Laser and IPL application. I perform only non-invasive treatments and consult on issues regarding cosmetic dermatology and remedial skin care exclusively. If you are not sure of the extent of your skin issue, then I recommend you check with your GP or dermatologist first. All treatments are tailored to individual clients.
