Did you know that I can also use EMDR as part of your treatment plan? You might have heard people mention EMDR and wondered what on earth those letters stand for! 🤔
Let’s break it down in a super simple, no-jargon way so you can see if it’s something that might support you 💛
EMDR is a type of therapy originally developed to help people heal from trauma – but it’s now used for so much more, including anxiety, phobias, low self-esteem, and those pesky memories that just won’t quit.
Sometimes our brains hit “pause” during overwhelming experiences, and the memory doesn’t file away properly.
EMDR uses gentle left-right stimulation (usually eye movements) to help your brain unstick the memory and file it away safely, without all the emotional weight. It’s not about forgetting – it’s about making peace with the past.
Whether it’s a big trauma or lots of little ones, EMDR can be a powerful way to release emotional baggage that’s been weighing you down. It’s especially useful when you know something is triggering you but talking it through hasn’t shifted it.
We’ll first explore what you want to work on, and when you’re ready, I’ll guide you through the EMDR process gently. You will follow my fingers with your eyes – all while staying grounded and supported. I’ll be right there with you the whole time.
A big myth about EMDR is that you have to relive everything. You absolutely don’t.
We spend time building your calm toolkit first, and I tailor the whole experience to your needs. In fact, most clients feel lighter, calmer, and more in control as the sessions progress.
Because I’m trained in both Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy and EMDR, I can blend the two if it’s helpful – supporting both your thinking patterns and your nervous system. It’s a really powerful combination for long-term emotional healing.
Whether you’re navigating anxiety, burnout, or a tricky past experience that’s still lingering, EMDR could be a beautiful tool in your healing journey.
