Why the upper neck matters 🧠🦴
The very top of your neck plays a key role in how your nervous system gathers information about movement, balance, and posture. This area is rich in sensory receptors that constantly send signals to the brainstem - a major control centre involved in breathing, heart rate regulation, and balance.
When the upper neck isn’t moving or functioning optimally (due to tension, injury, or restriction), those signals may become less clear. Your nervous system then has to work harder to process information, which can add to overall neurological “load”.
For people with conditions like POTS - where the autonomic nervous system is already under strain - reducing any source of extra stress may be helpful. That said, upper cervical chiropractic care is not a treatment or cure for POTS, and results vary from person to person.
Chiropractic care in this area focuses on supporting healthy movement and alignment, with the aim of improving how the nervous system processes information - as part of a broader, personalised approach to wellbeing.
