Action for Happiness is a movement of people taking action to create a happier society. We want to see a fundamentally different way of life where people care less about what they can get for themselves and more about the happiness of others. This group is for anyone in Birmingham who believes happiness matters and wants to meet other like-minded people to learn, share ideas and take local action to build a happier society. We take practical action, drawing on the latest scientific research. We are backed by leading experts from diverse fields including psychology, education, economics and social innovation. Members of the movement make a simple pledge: to try to create more happiness in the world around them. We provide ideas and resources to enable people to take action at home, at work, or in their community
We have no religious, political, or commercial affiliations and welcome people of all faiths (or none) and all parts of society. We were founded in 2010 by Richard Layard, Geoff Mulgan and Anthony Seldon. Our patron is the Dalai Lama
By getting together each month, we can inspire and support each other to increase our own happiness and well-being as well as creating a happier society for everyone :-)
Meetups (currently online due to covid) will be focused on Action for Happiness's 10 keys to happier living see https://www.actionforhappiness.org/10-keys
Here are our 3 golden rules for our get-togethers:
1. We listen to what everyone has to offer: Everyone has something valuable to offer which we honor with our full attention and non-judgment, giving them the space and time they need to speak.
2. We speak from the heart, not just the head: When we share our lived experiences and feelings, rather than just ideas and theories, we offer something valuable to the group and ourselves.
3. We take care of ourselves and each other: It's up to us to decide how much or how little to participate, while being mindful of the needs of others. We only benefit when we are willing to put good ideas into action.
