Update: Thank you for the amazing response we have received from this post! The neonatal unit now have plenty of squares to keep them going and do not need any more.

Update: To confirm the size required is between 5 to 10 cm square. If you have any further questions please contact 07976499507.

Are you a knitter or seamstress? Our neonatal unit urgently need your help to make bonding squares. When a tiny baby arrives on the unit, a bonding square is placed close to them, whilst its match is given to mum. The squares get swapped over so that baby has mum’s safe, familiar smell and mum can smell her baby when they are not together. This also helps mum express her breast milk.

We are looking for simple pairs of matching squares made from soft, clean, new fabric with hemmed edges (muslin fabric is good for these), knitted or crocheted but with no large hole that can trap little fingers or toes. Size between 5 to 10 cm square please.

Please address them to: The Infant Feeding Team, Maternity Department, City Hospital, Dudley Road, B18 7QH or drop them at the neonatal unit and mark for the attention of the infant feeding team.
