By knowing everything about your dream Retreat guest, you’ll be able to create Retreats & events that are EXACTLY what they want and need. It will also make things soooooo much easier for you, in terms of marketing and advertising your Retreats, because you’ll be super clear on who it’s for, where they spend their time online and how to reach them.

When is the best time to start planning your Retreats for the following year?

Because believe it or not, there is a best time which will get you SOLD OUT!

So, WHEN is the right time?

Well this will really depend on your dream clients, so if you’ve done the foundational work on this, you’ll know every little detail about them! But a few things to think about:

📆 Do they need to book annual leave from their job?

👶 Do they need to schedule in childcare?

💰 Do they need plenty of time to save up money/spread the cost?

For me, I tend to advertise my weekend Retreats 10-12 months in advance. This gives my clients plenty of time to get all their commitments sorted and plenty of time to work out their finances.

Whoop! This September I’ll be celebrating hosting Retreats for 8 years and 10 years running my Yoga business! 🥳

I don’t think retreat leader me 8 years ago could have imagined finishing a Retreat feeling AMAZING (not crying her eyes out 😭), or running multiple sell out Retreats every year, or even something as simple as getting a good night’s sleep in the run up to a Retreat!

I’ve come so far from the nervous wreck I was 8 years ago, wondering if people would book, wondering how to sell, wondering if I was good enough to be a host…to now confidently booking, planning and leading Retreats on repeat!

I’m proof that you DON’T need a huge following to sell out your Retreats, you just need to be super clear on why you’re doing them, who you’re serving and consistently show up for those people. All the other stuff like sales & marketing can be learned, even if (like me) you have zero sales & marketing experience!

If you’re at the start of your Retreat journey and are feeling overwhelmed, unworthy and actually a little bit lost with it all, my advice is to dig deep, build strong foundations & relationships first and once those foundations are in place, start planning your Retreats.

Some days I feel like I’ve cracked the code when it comes to selling out profitable Retreats! But this isn’t a secret that I want to keep all to myself self, and I think Yoga Teachers all over the world need to know…so here goes!

Here are my 5 top tips to advertise your Retreats:

🙌🏼 Start with your mailing list - these people know and love you & what you do!

🙌🏼 After you have advertised your Retreat to your mailing list, start posting about it on social media. Use a mix of images, reels, lives and stories to reach your dream guests.

🙌🏼 Get people to tell their friends about your Retreats! You could offer an incentive if they get someone to sign up. Word of mouth is INVALUABLE! It’s the best kind of advertising for your Retreat!

🙌🏼 Use Retreat advertising groups & pages to get your event in front of lots of interested eyes.

🙌🏼 Have a marketing & content plan, so you have an idea of what & when you’re going to post for maximum impact!

When I first started running Yoga Retreats in 2016, I was looking at all the other Retreat Leaders and thinking “how does she not look tired, I am exhausted?”

And back then I didn’t know what I do now... and that is that almost every Retreat Leader goes through a similar type of struggle.

I remember sitting there, at the end of my first few Retreats after everyone had gone home and just crying my eyes out!! I was so exhausted (I rarely sleep well when I’m leading a Retreat), I’d put my absolute all into the weekend and as soon as my guests left, I crashed!

Back then I thought things were never going to change but I tell you this story to tell you one very important thing... Things do get better!! I promise.

Yes, there are always struggles and challenges, but I learnt something on each Retreat I did (and still do)! I know my limits now, I ask for help instead of trying to do everything myself and I make sure that I include a little bit of Self Care during the weekend.

This could be something as simple as sitting quietly for 15 minutes before everyone gets up. Or using my favourite skincare products before bed, or maybe even just having some time out to call my loved ones for a quick chat.

Retreats are hard work, there’s no denying that. But watching the transformations that your guests go through is absolutely worth every sleepless night, every early morning and every sobbing mess at the end of a weekend 🤣.

Keep going - you’re doing great!

I’ve said it before and I will say it again...
👏🏻Go. 👏🏻 Look. 👏🏻 At. 👏🏻 A. 👏🏻 Venue. 👏🏻 BEFORE. 👏🏻 Booking.👏🏻 It!

Why? Because you can never truly know if that venue is for you and your guests, without seeing it first. The photos always show the venue in it’s best light and you can never really understand the floor plan without being there!

Don’t make the mistake that I did, booking my first Retreat venue without seeing it first and one of the guestrooms turned out to be the junk room in the loft 🙈🙈🙈.

Knowing what you’re going into also helps stops the stress before you arrive!

So remember, don’t be tempted to book a venue, just because you saw a post on Instagram and it looked good! It might be completely gorgeous, but just totally unsuitable for the Retreat you’re planning!
