Injuries - We believe - can be prevented in some situations. But How?
📍Here’s our 5 top tips on how to avoid an :
1. KNOW YOUR BODY - Just because you were able to run a 7-minute mile five years ago, doesn’t mean you are able to today. Be realistic & start slowly. If the goal is to run 10k in 50 mins 6 months from now, but you’ve never ran more than 2k and are currently 50lbs overweight - what do you need to do in order to get there safely?
2. FOLLOW A PLAN - Plan backwards from the goal. A strategic, well thought out plan to allow a steady, gradual, incremental (you get the hint) towards your goal. Skipping stages will put your body under unnecessary stress and likely end in an injury that sets you back from your goal anyway!
3. REST & RECOVER - When you’re chasing a fitness goal, it can seem counter-productive to take . The truth is in fact, the opposite: They allow your body to recuperate and your muscles to rebuild, which contribute to increased strength and growth.
4. FUEL CORRECTLY - Your performance is directly linked to what you consume, so be sure to fuel your body with the vital energy it needs to avoid stress and strain. That means eating carbohydrates to help rebuild your glycogen stores in recovery and plenty of protein to repair and build muscle tissue. Hydration (fluid intake) is often neglected and such a key component in the toolkit. Ensuring adequate (clear urine is the goal) not only helps you during your activity , but also ensures that you are able to recover more efficiently post workout!
6. SURVEILLANCE - Pay attention to how you feel and perform. Is something stopping you from working out at your best? Does something not quite feel right? Adjust your activities if your body is showing signs of too much stress. Sometimes we have weaknesses and vulnerabilities that we can’t see, or even feel. Seeing a who thoroughly understands the human and how it moves is key in being able to pinpoint any preexisting problems and|or dealing with them as they arise.
