If you had a safe and warm childhood, keep spreading that warmth and love to others. If you didn’t have a safe and loving childhood, find warmth and love in the safest way possible, and there… you’ll find your healing. Your inner child needs you to do that before you can become who you’re meant to be

In order to see the change in your child, you have to make the change first.

It is November, which means it’s Men’s Mental Health Month! For the men reading this, know that somebody cares for you, somebody loves you and somebody wants to listen to you. There is so much stigma around men seeking mental health support, and that’s a shame because everybody deserves access to mental health support.

You may have been told to go to therapy, but there are other options that can help you to get more comfortable with seeking mental health support. Don’t allow society to shame you for wanting to look after your mental health, below are some organisations and charities that are here for men to get the support they need (don’t forget to share with other men you know).

1. Andy’s Man Club have over 200 free support groups nationwide, running every Monday from 7PM except bank holidays www.andysmanclub.co.uk
2. Heads Up Guys is an organisation that was created for men about men. They provide resources, self-guided courses, articles and therapists on their website. www.headsupguys.org
3. Movember is an organisation that provides reliable, expert information to help men cope and live happier, healthier, longer lives www.movember.com
4. ManUp encourage men to talk about their feelings. They fund research and offer free group therapy sessions www.manup.how
5. Men’s Mind Matter specialises in developing and delivering psychological interventions for individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts, while also advocating for and raising awareness about male su***de. www.mensmindsmatter.org
6. Men’s Shed Provides community spaces for men to come together, socialize, and work on projects, helping reduce loneliness and improve mental well-being. www.menssheds.org.uk
7. ManKind Initiative supports men experiencing domestic abuse, offering confidential helplines and resources. www.mankind.org.uk

LIFE UPDATE:

I’m in a bit of a weird place right now. There’s lot of change, yet not the changes I appreciate.

- I’ve officially finished my master’s degree in counselling & psychotherapy, HOWEVER, I have to re-sit one exam in November/December so I won’t get my qualification until next year. This means I can’t see clients which is really disappointing
- Ever heard someone say “I’m between jobs right now”. Well I’m between homes right now. I’ve moved back home but it doesn’t feel like home right now, and I’d like to move soon so there’s the uncertainty of when and how.
- I’m generally unsure and uncertain of almost everything about my life in the next 6 to 9 months. There’s more questions than answers, more doubts than certainties. I’m a planner but at the moment, I have no choice but to go week by week.
- On the bright side, I will be back on YouTube next week and The Dope App is close to its launch!

I’m trying not to let myself feel overwhelmed and confused by focusing on the things within my control and praying.
If you’ve read all this, thank you lol this somehow turned into a diary entry.

There’s a lot of traditional sayings we say without thinking about most of the time and “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” is one of them. Yes, it can be true sometimes that some unfortunate experiences can help you become more resilient and stronger which is a good characteristic to have, however, we can become traumatised and be left with scars in the process.
So if something hasn’t killed you, and it has made you stronger, think about if you have scars and trauma from it that you need to deal with instead of ignoring it or burying it.

One of the things I have a love hate relationship with as a trainee therapist is READING. I have about 50 books that I want to read and that are in my Amazon basket, and I’m only able to read one at a time which takes me about a month or two depending on how busy I am, and even longer if I’m not enjoying the book.
At the moment I’ve just finished reading The 5 Love Languages for Children and started The 12 Week Year while simultaneously reading a romance novel for ✨balance✨ 😂 one “serious” book and one “pleasure” book.
However, now I’m writing my dissertation so I have to put both aside and pick up academia books on things like qualitative research and Interpretive phenomenological analysis and research papers to reference in my research paper. But when I’m done, I’ll be back to my usual reading schedule. What would you recommend I read, serious books and pleasure books too?
