As we move into a new calendar year, I’m starting to lay the groundwork for Ember Path’s programmes and events later in the year.

As part of that, I’m looking for two to three men to join Ember Path as directors.

A number of the funding streams we’re hoping to apply for require a minimum of three directors to ensure accountability. Beyond that, having a small group of men with different life experiences and perspectives at the head of Ember Path will make a real difference as the work develops.

I’m keen to keep the time commitment realistic. This is a light-touch role, focused on guidance and oversight rather than delivery.

The core responsibilities are:
– attending quarterly meetings (mostly online)
– offering insight and feedback on key decisions
– helping ensure the work stays aligned with the mission
– reviewing and signing off funding bids and accounts

There’s no expectation to be involved in day-to-day sessions or events, and no specific skills or background required — just bring yourself as you are.

If this sounds like something you’d be open to exploring, feel free to get in touch. And if someone comes to mind who might be a good fit but isn’t already connected to Ember Path, please do pass this on.

At this time of year, it’s common to feel tired — physically and mentally — and to assume that something’s wrong.

But winter has always been a season of slowing down.

Shorter days, colder weather, less light. In the natural world, nothing is trying to keep the same pace it did a few months ago. Energy is conserved. Things go quieter.

We tend to fight that by staying busy, staying switched on, pushing through, even when our bodies are asking for something different.

Tiredness isn’t failure, it’s feedback.

Sometimes the most sensible thing we can do is listen, slow down a little, and let the season be what it is. There will be time again for action and momentum. For now, it’s okay to rest.

See you all in January!

We can’t choose what happens to us, but we can choose how we react to it.
That takes soft skills like emotional intelligence — self-awareness, the ability to self-regulate — but at its core, it’s about taking responsibility for our words and actions.

Bad things happen to good people.
Accepting this, and moving beyond being a helpless victim of circumstance, is the key to moving forward.

It was only when I stopped blaming everything and everyone around me, and took responsibility for my own path, that my life started to turn around.

If you are ready to take responsibility then join the Ember List at emberpathcic.com/join/

We live in challenging times but as fathers, sons, brothers, husbands and friends we have the potential to be a force for good in the lives of the people around us by embracing positive masculinity.

Social media, the loneliness epidemic, rise of knife crime etc. Are problems in need of solutions. Yesterday we opened up the discussion on all this and more in our first campfire gathering.

If you want to find out more and join the conversation at the next gathering, drop us a message to join our mailing list or watch this space.

I believe when men have spaces to talk and connect, everyone benefits — families, workplaces, and whole communities.

That’s the idea behind the men’s campfire gathering we are hosting this weekend— a relaxed evening of food, fire, and good company at Warley Woods, Sunday 16 November, 4–6:30/7 pm.

It’s our first event, working to build a community of men focused on growth, purpose and connection.

Join us or share it with someone who’d value the space.

Bushcraft and camping aren't always about the skills; sometimes it's just about focusing on the immediate. Shelter, water, food and warmth all need to be managed and worked on, and at the same time worrying about that project at work or how to fix the broken fence at home becomes less important. Out in the woods, you have things to act on; you can immediately change your circumstances. If you're cold - light a fire, if you're getting wet - put up a shelter.

It can be incredibly freeing to temporarily set aside the worries of the future for the tasks of the present and that is the power of time in the woods.

On Sunday 16th November, we’re getting together at Warley Woods for a men’s campfire evening — good food, hot drinks, and time around the fire with other guys.

It’ll be a relaxed space to meet new people, catch up with familiar faces, and enjoy an evening outdoors.

This gathering also marks the launch of Ember Path CIC, a new community project with a simple vision: to build a community of men that create growth, purpose and connection. Tickets start at £5 (covering food and site costs), with the option to contribute more if you’d like to support the work.

📅 Sunday 16th November
🕓 4–6:30/7pm

Firesteels are a widely used tool in Bushcraft - compact, waterproof and long-lasting.

With a bit of practice and preparation, a small shower of sparks can become a fire to keep you warm, boil water and cook food.

Some of the best things start small and involve lots of struggle and persistence, but then grow into something incredible.

My direction, purpose and masculinity growing up was mostly shaped by what I didn't want to be. I drifted through life, often taking the path of least resistance. It was only later on when I discovered the right books, role models and guidance of other men that I really started to move purposefully towards who I wanted to be.

The goal in setting up Ember Path is to help people find that inner purpose that lights up their life. It's to build a community of men that guide each other in being a positive influence and support to those around them.

If this resonates with you, stick around as we build growth, purpose and connection through the outdoors.

If you are a man who:
- sometimes feels directionless
- struggles to keep in touch with friends
- craves a deeper connection

It's a real struggle, but you're not the only one and you're not alone.

A quiet kind of men’s work is coming.
Stick around. 🔥

Outdoor sessions are an opportunity to step away from the worries and pressures of everyday life and refocus on the simple things.

Instead of worrying about the chores, your project that is due or how to balance the budget, time outdoors is distilled down to staying warm, dry, fed and hydrated.

It's all about turning off that hamster wheel inside.
