Black gold! Although we didn’t actually come up with a name for these spuds, it didn’t take away from the beauty and difference of these beauties.
Every potato that we opened, had their own unique and vibrant patterning which indicates the benefits from a nutritional perspective of growing organic and heritage seeds and tubers.
We definitely will be giving these another try in the next growing season and in between, come up with a fitting name… maybe.

Quick recap on an extraordinarily productive day last Thursday, when we had the pleasure of working with and welcoming to glamp our shed and erect the greenhouse to the rear of the site.
We had a great time solving the puzzle of instruction sheets, getting messy with paint, eating together and sharing laughter… it was a very memorable day.
We are incredibly grateful for the hard work and support we received on the day but more importantly, we co-created a vibrant atmosphere, learned about each other, and chipped away at bringing the vision to life.
Paying good deeds forward inevitably means that it will be received and I wish the team every success in their individual and collective journeys as we continue to create green and safe spaces for wellbeing, personal and spiritual growth.
Thank you.
Peace ✌🏾

We’d like to introduce you to the ‘Pepper Gang’ also known as the courageous volunteers from who braved the exhausting heat on Thursday, lending their support to bring near closure to the second phase of this sites design plan.
We had great conversations, shared food together and even gained further recognition from our fellow allotmenteers by way of welcoming plants.
We thank them so much for their labor and look forward to collaborating again with them in the future.
Massive thanks guys!
Peace

Teenage Angst 0 - Earth Gardens 1
One of our focus, is to engage children and young adults within outdoor activities. Mental wellness applies throughout all ages within our communities and if we can prioritise this aspect of personal development, we can find affordable ways to stay mentally healthy.
It can get slightly harder the older children become but, once they are out of the house and away from electrical gadgets just long enough to detox for a while, they quickly adapt to becoming creative and helpful. Our young children are our future and if we plant seeds of goodness and alternative avenues for learning, water with examples… who knows what might bear fruit 🍎.
We getting our space in Handsworth ready for more small hands, helping us from our local primary school. Peace.

FINDING THE PLOTS

We froze our n$&s off last week by braving freezing temperatures to demolish our existing shed (which we used when first acquiring our plot). A huge shout out again to for funding our new potting shed, which will allow us greater shelter initially and to also propagate out seeds.
We were so close to putting up the structure that we had waited on for so long but the cold breeze got the better of us. I think we need to level to ground more so that the base of the shed can feel more sturdy but, for now, we’re reflecting on our successes and anticipating a jigsaw of a puzzle next attempt at construction.
We’ll keep you posted! Peace.

MEET OUR FRIENDS

These beautiful creatures have been a massive part of our gardening experience and overall biodiversity of the soil that we are dependent upon for not only growing crops, but playing host to the myriad of plants that we hope to grow this gardening season.
We are very carefully considering what to grow as flowers, herbs and fruit for nutritional and mental health through our senses.
As the months progress, we’ll be sharing stories from our two-legged friends and not only seeing how they garden, but to also use our visits as a means of sharing knowledge and seeds.
We’re excited!

OUR COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

As our projects get underway, our engagement includes continuing our Craft and Gardening project in where planting and planning for the impending season is underway, together with working within their existing kitchen garden. In the meantime, we’re working on our green space within where visitors and facilitators can benefit from not only a tranquil space but also an edible back garden, that doubles up as a creative backdrop where arty things naturally happen. As we welcome new workers and volunteers, we’re anticipating transforming a stretch of canal space in our local area, that will engage and inspire residents to grow their own veggies as well as come to our craft workshops during the coming months - we will keep you informed. We love our communities!

FINDING THE PLOTS...

Handsworth - Healing Garden

This week, we were really chuffed to welcome a new volunteer who livened our space with her bubbly and enthusiastic personality. From a scientific background originally, her love for gardening particularly around flowering plants 🌻however, she was very keen to learn about growing veggies, so we made sure that she did not leave empty-handed. Thank you for the productive introduction.
Despite the colder months, we've taken the opportunity to use the relative good weather to give consistent attention to out compost piles. Although novice at these area of sustainable horticulture, we're learning as we go and very grateful to individuals and organisations that donate their out-of-date compostable fruit, vegetables and bread, because with regular turning, we can then cut back on our purchase of compost and refill our raised beds adequately in a few months time. We've also been paying attention to formulating our paths with bark chipping, that rest on top of multiple layers of cardboard, not only to give context to the design of the healing garden but, to keep the site anti-slip and as hazard free as possible for our visitors during wet times.

Witton - Horticultural Gardens.

We're giving a huge shout out to for finding the replacement of our entrance shed. This addition to the space and can now provide us with a snazzier, waterproof structure for us to store some of our equipment. Overall, things are looking optimistic for the growth and development of this site and we'll update you some more next month. Volunteers welcomed!

If you're interested or know someone who could benefit from this 30 week project, get in touch and we can give you more information. We will also keep you updated on our journey through these sessions and their impact on community mental wellness and the combat on .

Did you know - 95% of our food comes from soil across the globe and that there are more living organisms in a tablespoon of soil than people on Earth?

Soil is a world made up of so many organisms, minerals, and organic components that provides food for us and animals through plants.

World Soil Day 2022 ( ) and its campaign "Soils: Where food begins" aims to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, increasing soil awareness and encouraging societies to improve soil health which in turn supports our mental, physical and spiritual health.

Until recently, I never heard of and its use for providing better quality compost.
Our Handsworth site really needs all the support it can get right now as we've had so many challenges with poor quality soil, rubble underneath and debris, to the extent that we've had to go .
Thank you so much and for hosting this inspiring and educational workshop which allow us the opportunity to use a variety of methods to increase and improve our yields for the months and years ahead.

It's great to collaborate and support community ventures in and around the city as our goals are the same - to improve the lives of individuals, nutritionally.

Natural spaces for the promotion of respite from the hustle off what is becoming normal life, needs to be safe, accessible and affordable. As we grow as project within the inner city, we will be sharing our allotment spaces with individuals, organisations and lovely animals too. Thank you .group for sharing our vision of inspiring and educating young people to connect with nature as a means of tapping into their creativity, their entrepreneurial skills and the legacy both spiritually and historically.

As we approach autumn and the days become shorter, these little gems of abundance bring happiness and the feeling is priceless. We have an abundance of tomatoes and these tiger varieties are keenly welcomed.

We'll eagerly watch their ripening progress over the coming days as our prayer for rain has been answered and now we're going to be cheeky and ask for a bit more 🌞. Fingers 🤞.

It's looking a lot like spring! As the days get longer, our excitement grows. We've got a lot to do this year but as our volunteers increase in number to match our passion... It's going to be great.
We've got enough seeds to supply both plots as we've collected as many as we could from last years veggies. Fingers crossed, well grow from strength to strength in the months ahead.

We love it when visitors turn into volunteers and furry orange animals make our acquaintance, peaceful.
We've made the most of the last few days if January, tidying the raised beds, covering any weeds with our abundance or cardboard as well as tending to our compost bins.

Now we're planning on naming key areas of our site in honour of phenomenal human beings who have acted as inspiration, all over the world and to us here in .
Things just got a whole lot more exciting and we anticipate a lot of fun along the way.
