Despite the 'ageing population' in the region, growth in care homes beds in the North West was ZERO last year.

That is according to the annual report "Caring Britain: How the care home landscape is changing", which looked at figures for 2024-2025.

The report concludes "As demand continues to rise, supporting a professional, transparent and responsive care home market will be central to ensuring that older people can access the right care, in the right place, at the right time."

Knowing where the best care homes are on the Fylde Coast can be vital. Anyone who would like a tour of our residential home in Blackpool - which looks after people with various types and levels of need - please get in touch on 01253 403 091.

Choosing 'the best care home near me' can be a tricky decision, as there are a lot of things to consider. Which is why we welcome people for a show-round at our Blackpool residential home.

Stepping inside and feeling the atmosphere is part of the process when looking for long term or respite services for the elderly.

So, get in touch if you do want to see what we offer. And meanwhile, Age UK has published a great guide to choosing the right care home, which you can read by clicking this link.

It is with great sadness that N-Vision announces the passing of the wonderful Joy Killip, aged 101, one of the founders of our Talking News service.

Joy was instrumental in getting Talking News off the ground for Fylde Coast residents with vision loss, almost 50 years ago. She continued to be a volunteer reader until quite recently. Joy moved into our Princess Alexandra Home last year and made sure she paid a visit to the recording studio, which she said was like “coming home”.

Talking News is now known as Talking N-Vision, and has grown and developed to include a great deal of valuable spoken-word content for people with sight loss. It includes regional and national articles, recipes, TV guides, a fun podcast and great advice. It is still posted out weekly free of charge (like in Joy’s day) but is also available digitally, and on Alexa devices.

N-Vision’s Digital Officer, Mike Billington said: “We are sad that Joy is no longer around to contribute, but her legacy is going to live on in Talking N-Vision, helping countless people to benefit from spoken word content.”

The images are from various functions, recordings and award events Joy attended during her 63 years of volunteering with N-Vision.

Our Gardening Club is back in business for 2026, and members had fun this week making bird feeders.

These included a range of treats for our feathered friends who may be struggling in Winter. The feeders were hooked easily over branches of trees and bushes in the Home's extensive grounds.

There are going to be lots of great projects for the club to get involved with in the coming months, as our grounds are being transformed with thanks to volunteers spearheaded by Groundwork Cheshire, Lancashire, Merseyside.

Any help with the gardening club, the work in the grounds and fundraising would be much appreciated.
