It is with great sadness that N-Vision announces the passing of the wonderful Joy Killip, aged 101, one of the founders of our Talking News service.
Joy was instrumental in getting Talking News off the ground for Fylde Coast residents with vision loss, almost 50 years ago. She continued to be a volunteer reader until quite recently. Joy moved into our Princess Alexandra Home last year and made sure she paid a visit to the recording studio, which she said was like “coming home”.
Talking News is now known as Talking N-Vision, and has grown and developed to include a great deal of valuable spoken-word content for people with sight loss. It includes regional and national articles, recipes, TV guides, a fun podcast and great advice. It is still posted out weekly free of charge (like in Joy’s day) but is also available digitally, and on Alexa devices.
N-Vision’s Digital Officer, Mike Billington said: “We are sad that Joy is no longer around to contribute, but her legacy is going to live on in Talking N-Vision, helping countless people to benefit from spoken word content.”
The images are from various functions, recordings and award events Joy attended during her 63 years of volunteering with N-Vision.
