Question? What's your real job?

If you can't move, walk or stretch, how do you manage?
How do you feel if you can't sleep?
How do you feel when you've eaten something that's not sitting well? Or you're on your third hangover in a month?

Your real job is looking after your health. You only have one body to live in & illness doesn't care who you are or what you should be doing next.

So, what are you doing this month to look after it?

Today I dare you to share....

Share a worry with someone else, right now. Send a text, make a phone call, call someone & invite them for coffee, post in on your socials if you feel you need to.

They say a problem shared is a problem halved - watch how quickly it can turn from a feeling like a mountain to something solvable when you share it.

Even though I'm off, I'm still thinking about the types of blends I can develop & how I can help my friends when they need it.

Here I've researched & designed an aura cleansing & protection rollerball. It contains Cedarwood for grounding & clearing negative energies to help promote a sense of stability and peace. Patchouli for grounding too plus its balancing properties, which help promote emotional wellbeing. And finally, Bergamot, to help shield you from negative energy & promote positive vibrations.

Even if you're not totally convinced about auras, promoting a feeling of being grounded, balanced, of feeling emotionally well & positive is always a good thing!

In Aromatherapy, abscesses are traditionally treated with hot compresses place over the swelling to reduce pain & inflammation & "draw out" any toxins. Hence, I always advise using a Chamomile compress if you come to clinic!

For dental abscesses, hot compresses may be applied to the face until you see a dentist but my recommendatation is to use 1-2 drops of neat peppermint oil directly on the abscess (as long as it hasn't burst).

Oils to use are Chamomile (especially for dental work), Lavender & Te-tree as a combination.

If you want an uplifting blend to go in your diffuser, Bergamot essential oil blends well with Lavender, Patchouli, Black pepper, and Frankincense.

As a rule of thumb, use 5 drops of essential oil to every 100ml of water. So, if you're mixing Bergamot & Frankincense, use 2 drops of Frankincense & 3 drop of Bergamot per 100ml.

Did you know that swimmer's ear doesn't only affect people who go swimming?
Swimmer's ear (an inflammation of the external ear canal - did you see my post on otitis earlier?) usually occurs when water gets trapped in the ear.

This can also be from a shower & even from shampoo, as the dark, damp environment is ideal for bacterial & fungal growth.

The best essential oils for any ear inflammation include Lavender, Chamomile & the gentlest of the Eucalyptus oils - radiata (especially for children!)

Apply essential oils only to the skin around the outer ear, behind the ear, or along the jawline. Never introduce them directly into the ear canal: however, If you know there's been no rupture or there's no ear wax present, it's ok to place some of the diluted oil on a cotton wool ball & place it gently into the outer part of the ear.

Always make sure you consult a doctor if you have any foul-smelling, yellowish discharge from the ear, if you have any hearing loss or any sudden, sharp pain, even if there's no sign of a fever.

ESSENTIAL OIL SAFETY:
Using essential oils around the ear requires a meticulous approach to safety. The skin around the ear, especially behind it, is sensitive, using correctly diluted oils is therefore a must. The delicate structures of the inner ear also demand extreme caution.

If you've ever had a side stitch, you'll know how much they stop you in your tracks.

Not a life-threatening issue, thankfully, just a sharp pain under the rib.

The most common cause is either trapped wind in the intestine or a spasm in the diaphragm. When you're running or working your body pretty hard, most of your blood goes to the muscles involved in the activity & less goes into your abdomen/chest area.

Pain is just your body's way of saying, "Oy... Houston, we have a problem here", so, try these tips to help your body out:

1. Breathe - Take a deep breath, purse your lips & push all the air out of your lungs. Inhale & exhale 9 times like this. If wind is causing your side stitch, breathing this way will move it on.

2. Slow down - If forced breathing isn't solving it, you need to address the lack of blood flow to the diaphragm. When you slow down, blood flow evens out & will go back to the spot you need it to.

3. Walk - If the stitch is still painful in your side once you've slowed down, try walking slowly for one minute.

4. Eat lightly before any workout - This will help prevent a stitch ocurring in the first place because eating a big meal can draw blood towards your stomach, and away from your diaphragm.

They're only small things, but boy do paper cuts sting., throb & make you feel like every nerve ending in your body is centred in your fingertip.

Paper cuts can be deceptively deep but luckily they heal fast. Did you know too that women tend to get more paper cuts in winter? This is because the dry, hot indoor air removes natural moisture from the skin.

Try these tips to make the little blighters more comfortable if you find your fingers sliced:

1. Clean it - Gently run the cut under warm water for a minute.

2. Soothe it with ointment or some essential oil - Apply a dab of anti-bacterial salve. Lavender and Tea Tree essential oils are among the best for treating paper cuts due to their antibacterial and healing properties. They can help disinfect the wound and promote faster healing.

3. Cross it off - Close any obvious gaping cut with a small strip of surgical tape. Gently push both edges of the cut together. Place the surgical tape at a perpendicular angle to the cut, so the cut & the tape make an X shape & pull the tape tight to keep the cut from opening.

4. Put nappy cream on it - Yes, this works. Especially, the aromatherapy nappy cream I make, which is made up of Chamomile, Lavender & Aloe Vera.

5. Do the night shift - Night time is great for applying oil or ointment because you don't need to use your hands (unless you work nights!) You can slather it on & leave it to soak in while you sleep.

6. Be smart - next time, use a letter opener!!
