Post-Massage Tips for Optimal Recovery 💆‍♂️💧

Just had a sports massage? Here’s how to make the most of it:

Hydrate! - Drink plenty of water post-massage to flush out toxins and support muscle recovery.

Take It Easy - Rest for a few hours to allow your muscles to fully relax and heal.

Gentle Stretching - After some rest, do light stretching to improve flexibility and maintain muscle length.

Avoid Intense Exercise - Let your body fully recover before jumping back into heavy workouts.

Listen to Your Body - If you feel discomfort the next day, consider some light movement or even another massage session.

Over the past 15 months, I've encountered this statement repeatedly: "I won't go for a sports massage, it's too painful."

In my experience, having sports massage should never be painful. While some discomfort may occur when addressing muscle tension or certain injuries, the pain level should never exceed a 7 out of 10 in the session. Anything above this threshold can lead to muscle tension, which counteracts the benefits of the session. For optimal results, I believe it's essential to maintain a level of comfort throughout the treatment.

I and all Sports Massage therapist I know, will always work through the muscles gradually before going into any deep tissue techniques, this is to ensure the muscles are more receptive to deeper pressure, improving effectiveness and minimizing discomfort.

It is important to note that while mild soreness may occur following a sports massage, it should be temporary and subside within a couple of days. This is a normal response as the muscles adjust and recover, and should not be severe or long-lasting, no different to a hard workout.
