Our Lead Tutor, Adrian, brings over 30 years’ experience in environmental education, supported by a professional background in ecology and biological survey work, with specialist expertise in invertebrates and butterflies. Coast and Forest Education delivers high-quality, inspiring outdoor learning opportunities, including Forest School programmes, environmental education and outdoor learning sess

ions across a wide range of habitats. All provision is carefully tailored to meet the specific needs of individual learners, schools and groups. We deliver First Aid and Forest School Leader qualifications through the awarding organisation Qualification Network United Kingdom (QNUK). All courses are regulated and sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). We choose to work with regulated awarding organisations to provide learners with confidence and assurance that qualifications are current, robust and aligned with statutory requirements, including those relevant to OFSTED. This approach also offers assurance to us as a training centre, as we work within a clear quality framework supported by established systems and processes. These include External Quality Assurance, compliance monitoring and the requirement to maintain comprehensive policies and procedures under an Internal Quality Assurance framework. In addition, we provide Internal Quality Assurance services for Forest School and First Aid qualifications.

We recently ran our CPD session 'Tool refresher for Forest school Leaders' in a beautiful woodland on a lovely spring day. Revisiting initial skills from Leader training, sawing, drilling, and splitting. We started the day making a sawhorse for the day and for each participant to take away. I feel sawhorses are an important part of the kit needed to facilitate good sawing facilitation and safe sawing, importantly. Shaping the points with axe work.

Then felled some hazel to make mallets. The forest school classic. We then introduced the use of an auger, making a glute or wedge and made a Maul, another hand tool.

Getting people off the ground — literally!
Recently ran a CPD session with the education team at Hampshire & IoW Wildlife Trust, exploring how to introduce aerial elements like swings, slacklines, tightropes and walkways into outdoor learning, plus the basics of carabiners, loops and hitches to make it safe and simple.
The developmental benefits of this kind of play are huge — and it's something I offer to practitioners and outdoor educators everywhere.
