We provide a confidential service offering advice & support on a range of sexual health issues.

Our sexual and reproductive health service provides diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections and complications including HIV. We also provide family planning support and advice and all forms of contraception in one confidential and friendly service. Sexual health is also sometimes referred to as genito-urinary medicine (GUM).

Your dedication, kindness, and the care you’ve shown to both colleagues and those you support have made such a lasting impact. It has truly been a privilege to work alongside you and learn from you.

Did you know that this week (9-15th February) is National HIV testing week?

HIV care has come a LONG way since the 1980s. Here are some common HIV myths which you may not know.
1.     Everyone who acquires HIV will have symptoms- FALSE
Many people can live with HIV for a long time without any symptoms or knowing about the infection at all. The only way to know your status is to get a HIV test.

2.     I can get a HIV test within a week of a new s*xual partner or high risk exposure and know I am negative- FALSE
HIV has a window period of up to 45 days. This means that although a test could be negative at that time, if testing too soon, the test may not be 100% accurate.

3.     I’m not at risk of HIV, I am heteros*xual- FALSE
Based on 2024/2025 reporting, only 29% of new diagnosis were within the GBMSM (gay and bis*xual men who have s*x with men) community. 50% of all new diagnosis were in heteros*xual men and women.

4.     Everyone with HIV is at risk of passing the infection to someone else- FALSE
People living with HIV on effective treatment have undetectable levels of the virus within their body. This means that HIV CAN NOT be passed on to someone else. We call this Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U). In 2023, over 95% of individuals were accessing treatment for HIV.

So what is the long-term aim for HIV care? The UN have set a global target to end all new HIV transmissions by 2030. The UK has seen a significant drop in new diagnosis in recent years.
How are we aiming to achieving that?

1.     Preventative treatments-
PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis)
PEP (Post-exposure prophylaxis)
U=U
2.     Increased testing
3.     Stigma reduction

Sexual health services are free and confidential to everyone.
If you are under 18, you can attend our clinic without a parent or adult present.

If you are 13-16 years old, you will be encouraged to consider telling your parent/s or carers, but we will not make you.

You will also be asked some questions which may seem very personal, but they are to ensure you are safe.

The information you provide is confidential, which means this will not be shared with anyone else. The only time we may need to tell someone else, is if we believe there is a risk to your safety or someone else’s safety.
