A great article about the postnatal check. So often women don't understand why they have been asked to make an appointment for this as their GP seems to undertake a very brief, routine conversation with them. Here are some of the issues you may wish to discus with you GP at your appointment.

When you have your post natal check will vary hugely depending on a number of factors.  If you have had no complications it will take place 6 – 8 weeks post delivery.  If you have had a C-Section, or suffered some complications, it will generally take place after 10 – 12 weeks.  It is worth noting t...

Embrace the oxytocin and hug during labour! Learn more about the positive effects of oxytocin and endorphins on your labour at Daisy Birthing classes and workshops.

Have you been hugged lately? Did you know...

"The average length of a hug between two people is 3 seconds, but researchers have discovered something fantastic. When a hug lasts 20 seconds, there is a therapeutic effect on the body and mind.

The reason is that a sincere hug produces a hormone called "oxytocin", also known as the love hormone. This substance has many benefits in our physical and mental health, helps us, among other things, to relax, to feel safe and calm our fears and anxiety.

This wonderful calming is offered free of charge every time we have a person in our arms, when we cradled a child, cherish a dog or cat, we're dancing with our partner, the closer we get to someone or just hold the shoulders of a friend."

Try it out and hug a Beloved today!

A very interesting quote from Dr. George M Morley. I have often heard delayed cord clamping named as a cause for physiological jaundice due to the excess of red blood cells needing to be broken down, this suggests differently. Whilst Dr Morley is suggesting delayed clamping has a place in the prevention of hypoglycemia it is possibly an important factor to consider in infants of mother who have developed gestational diabetes.
