WHY WE SHOULD ALL LISTEN WHEN IT COMES TO KETAMINE!
Through our work in schools and businesses, I’ve been around so many teenagers and young adults in recent weeks who are addicted to Ketamine.
This is one horrible drug that is ruining the lives of so many young people and the impact this is having on their bodies is horrendous.
I’ve seen people bent over in crippling pain, permanent bladder damage, and some saying “I feel it’s impossible to stop” - and that’s just from the person taking the drug. I’ve also seen mothers, fathers, grandparents and siblings, in floods of tears saying they think their son/daugther is slowly dying because of the drug.
Taking it usually starts with “having a laugh with my mates” and can rapidly turn into living hell where the laugh turns to agony.
Last week was the third time, I’d heard someone had jumped out of the bedroom window so they can go and use.
Those taking it aren’t from any particular background or family dynamic. Some are managing to only just hold on to a professional job. Not only that, holding on to their life.
In the last 4 years there has been a 231% in use and it’s now replacing co***ne to be the go to drug for young adults. It’s cheap, accessible and can usually get dropped off quicker than a pizza. However, a bit like He**in, it’s a drug that can chew you up and spit you out and you don’t get many chances with it.
Last week I spoke to someone struggling and their mum. Their words “it can’t kill you”. Today I spent time with the sister who lost her brother to the drug earlier this year. It is killing people!
This post isn’t to scare monger. It’s to encourage you to open the conversation up with young people. To signpost to awareness pages and to encourage those who are using, to seek professional help and support. Also to encourage affected others to seek support.
WHYSUP are looking forward to collaborate with an amazing organisation next week - House of The Vivienne, who we were introduced to from Cheryl Williams from Adferiad who treat many people for Ketamine addiction. We will be delivering an education and awareness session to 500 students at a local school.
Is it the right post for Facebook? Yes!!! Statistics show there will be lots of people on this platform impacted at one stage or another in their life. And I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
That said their are some life saving and changing organisations/people out there offering support.
There are some links below for help, support and awareness. Please feel free to add others and share👇
