We wanted to challenge ourselves for and run a campaign to raise awareness around mental health.
The ‘Take the first step’ challenge aims to acknowledge how difficult taking that first step can be when asking for support.
I know. The hardest 3 words I ever had to say was, ‘I need help!’ I burst into tears for the next 20 minutes. It was hard but importantly, I got the help I needed. I’m still here.
A group of 63 strangers have come together, united under that cause, to attempt to reach a collaborative team total 10 million steps!
10 million reasons in solidarity with any man who takes that hard first step and asks for support.
Why 10,000,000?
On the 14th September 2025, my idol, Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton died by su***de. Ricky was a huge inspiration to me as a northern kid, he showed that if you worked hard and persevered you could achieve anything and get to the top of the world- no matter your upbringing. He made you believe you could achieve the impossible… he was one of us, he dared to dream and showed us the way!
10 million steps would be the equivalent of walking from the Etihad Stadium, Manchester to the MGM Grand in Los Vegas where he fought Floyd Mayweather. The result is not important. He united us northern kids and we took over America for that night.
From that day I was always ‘walking in a Hatton wonderland!’
We are fund raising for two causes. Any funds will raise will go to directly towards activities for men.
The total will be shared between BMitC and Elite Community Hub C.I.C who run Ricky's Club, a men’s peer to peer support group, helping men through their struggles that was set up in memory of their friend Ricky Fletcher who unfortunately took his own life.
This could happen to you, your friend, colleague, brother, dad or son. Mental health does not discriminate and can affect anyone.
