👌💕 OXYTOCIN IS F***ING AMAZING!

It is the powerhouse of labour and it’s actions create pure love.

Your body releases it throughout labour and birth and your baby gets a good dose of it too, setting up your baby’s oxytocin system for life!

Birth partners level of oxytocin also dramatically rise immediately following birth too.

It truly is magical.

What can I do for you as a doula? 🤔

Well, it really depends what you want and need...

The carousel list some of the things that I can do for you. You may want ALL OF THAT, some of it or none of it.

🤩 When I work with families my goal is to be there to support you in the ways you want me to.

🤗 I'll only work with people I vibe with and who have a full body "F**K YES" about working with me. That is crucial for the client/ doula relationship. We need to have the trust and connection to get the benefits.

🫶 I'll want to get to know you and your family/ birth team. I want to know who you are, what are your fears, what do you love and hate, how do you picture your birth, how do you want to feel afterwards, what do you know and what do you want to know?

There are some things I won't do as a doula...
I WON'T:
🙅🏻‍♀️ Give you my opinion - my opinion doesn't matter.
🙅🏻‍♀️ Advise you.
🙅🏻‍♀️ Do anything clinical.
🙅🏻‍♀️ Do ANYTHING you don't want me to.
🙅🏻‍♀️ Touch you without permission.

When we have an initial meet up we will know if we are each others people. We will talk about what you want and need and what I can and can't help with and discover if we are a good fit.

Are you thinking of getting a doula for your birth?
Have you already had a doula at your birth and what did they help with?

Your cervix is a badass!

Do you know what yours looks and feels like?? Comment below.

Many people with a cervix don't really know what it is, what it does or what it looks like... I know I didn't pre-pregnancy and birth obsession.

So, it's a small, cylindrical structure that sits at the bottom of your uterus (womb), connecting it to your va**nal highway.

It changes it's shape, position and structure throughout the different phases of your menstrual cycle as well as pregnancy and birth.

Usually it feels firm like the tip of your nose and a bit like a tortellini or little doughnut. during menstruation it softens, moves and opens a little to allow menstrual flow out. It also opens around ovulation to allow s***m to pass through and reach an egg.

During pregnancy it usually closes up and goes higher up in the va**na and points slightly back towards your bum.

During labour it will soften, thin and move to be more central. As baby presses down on your cervix (see other posts on this for more detail), your cervix will pull open and back over baby (dilation) and baby will come through.

Let me know in the comments if any of this is news to you.

Free Pregnancy, Birth and New Parent drop in.

Come and join me for a cuppa and a bit of connection. I’ll be running these regularly over the next few months.

I’m a hypnobirthing instructor, antenatal teacher, doula in training and have been supporting families in birth for 25 years!

I’ll be at the Forest Art Centre in Old Milton on Friday 16th June from 10am - 11.30am having a coffee and working away. I’d love to meet you and help you explore what’s on your mind in your pregnancy, provide you with info and resources for your birth, help normalise the challenges of being a new parent or just lend an ear!

I’m ya mate that you don’t know yet, except I’m a total birth and baby nerd so I have the answers you’re looking for or I at least know where to find them.

Can’t wait to see you there!

Comfort Measures

Save this post for when you make your birth plan and share with a pregnant mate.

What are comfort measures?
🫶 Things that make you and the the sensations of labour feel more comfortable.

🌱 From your environment and the people you invite into your birth space to patterned breathing, acupuncture, aromatherapy, homeopathy, hypnosis, massage,
reflexology, using water or pharmaceutical medication. There are many options available to you and this list is not exhaustive, you have the right to choose what is right for you.

Here is a whistle stop tour but please look into all your options so you can fully understand the risks/ benefits of each and decide what fits best for you.

See the carousel for some pointers.

Last and by far NOT LEAST understanding and supporting your physiology and mindset, having only people around you that you know and trust and a comfy environment where you feel safe and held, go a LONG LONG way to helping birth be a powerful but manageable experience.

Believe in you, I do.

You are growing your baby and you can birth your baby. Having the knowledge and that belief in yourself will go a long way to support that feeling good.

Whether choosing a caesarean, birthing at home or in water, having the knowledge to navigate your choices and care, as well as feeling powerful and confident will support your birth and journey into parenthood. Whatever that looks like for you.

Get in the know and come and learn with me!

Connecting with your baby while they are still bump is bloody lovely for building trust in your body and baby… and it just feels really bloody nice.

Get the oxytocin flowing and get to know your little one and let them know how much you love them and want to know them.

It’s not for everyone and that’s totally cool but maybe give it a try and see how it feels.
