We need your help - our Emergency Departments are extremely busy and there are long waits to be seen. Please only attend if you need emergency care.

If you are unsure, call NHS 111. You can also use local pharmacies or contact your GP.

Choosing well may mean someone who needs our care uregently, receives it sooner. Thank you ๐Ÿ’™

Please note: If you are pregnant and have any concerns about yours or your babyโ€™s health, donโ€™t hesitate to get in touch with us via the Dorset Maternity Advice Line on 0300 369 0388 ๐Ÿ“ฒ

Parking update ๐Ÿš™

Thank you for your feedback regarding parking at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH). We appreciate how frustrating it can be when you canโ€™t find a parking space, especially when it is urgently needed.

While we are restricted by our local authority with how many spaces we can have on site, we are planning a new patient and visitor car park at RBH, with up to 150 additional parking spaces and a minimum of 20 new blue badge spaces.

We know how important this is and we are aiming to have this ready for use by Summer 2026. Please bear with us as we make this happen as quickly and safely as possible.

In the meantime, we are working hard to improve the number of spaces at RBH now. We have several areas being used by our construction teams which will be released back to us soon, including a large amount of blue badge parking spaces by our Outpatients Department.

As we move services across our sites to transform our hospitals, many outpatient appointments will be moving to Poole Hospital, freeing up parking spaces at RBH. We are also looking at ways we can see our patients differently. In October more than 9,000 had virtual appointments from the comfort of their own homes, reducing the need to come to our hospital sites. We are reviewing how many more patients could be seen this way, or in the community.

We also have several drop off areas around our hospital for emergency situations and our bus hub at the front of the hospital is available for those able to use public transport instead.

We thank you for your patience while this work is ongoing.

A big thank you to everyone who popped in to see us at GATHER in the Dolphin centre in Poole yesterday. We had lots of partner agencies join us, making it a really busy, well attended event. Over 80 people dropped in to have their blood pressure taken, including one of our local MPs, Neil Duncan-Jordan MP pictured with Sue, one of our governors and an active volunteer at UHD.

Missed the event? You can find out more about the transformation that's underway across the UHD sites on our website: https://www.uhd.nhs.uk/future

We love a work bromance ๐Ÿ‘ฌ

and Rob and Gabriel are no exception.

When Gabriel recently graduated with a Masters from Bournemouth University, his manager, Rob, was keen to share the good news with us. And as Gabriel says himself, itโ€™s proof that โ€œwhen you put your mind to it, anything and everything is possible.โ€

And when Gabrielโ€™s not fighting cybercrime, heโ€™s doing stellar work as our Diverse Ethnicity Staff Network co-lead. We really are a talented bunch here at ๐Ÿค“

Thanks for your time, guys, and congrats again to Gabriel! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿฟโ€๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿคฉ

Yesterday marked the end of Transgender Awareness Week; a chance to raise awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people, and for trans and non-binary people to feel seen through positive and realistic representation.

Today we are grateful to our Chaplaincy Team and colleagues at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital for holding a Transgender Service of Remembrance, to honour the memories of transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.

As our Pride Staff Network Lead, Melissa Armstrong, says: โ€œto our transgender and non-gender conforming network members and Team UHD colleagues, please remember; you are seen, you are heard, and you are loved.โ€

Our Story

We are University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. Based on the south coast of England, the trust serves a population of more than 800,000 people, reaching as far as Purbeck, the New Forest and South Wiltshire, and collectively employing more than 9,000 members of staff.

Our trust is comprised of three hospitals; the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Poole Hospital and Christchurch Hospital, which merged on 1 October 2020, creating a new organisation. This will provide huge opportunities and benefits to the way we deliver patient care in the future and will lead to better outcomes, improved quality and more efficient service delivery.

Within UHD we pride ourselves on the delivery of safe and high quality care. Every single person working within this organisation makes a difference to the quality of care provided. We have a number of exciting developments due to take place over the next few years, coupled with an ambitious transformation agenda. The Royal Bournemouth Hospital will become the major emergency hospital and Poole Hospital will become the major planned hospital, alongside other services provided for east Dorset. Christchurch Hospital incorporates the Day Hospital which provides rehabilitation for our older population, the Macmillan Unit which provides specialist palliative care, rheumatology, and dermatology.
