This week is Race Equality Week and the theme for 2026 is - a call to make it everyone’s business.

Race Equality Week is a national movement uniting thousands of organisations and individuals and guiding them to address the barriers to race equality in the workplace.

At UHD we are delighted to have a diverse workforce made up of staff from many different backgrounds. Our organisation is strengthened by our staff who bring their own experiences and cultures to our organisation. 💜

Yvonne Coghill OBE, explains why race equality is important to the NHS and how all of them are to do with patient care. - find more resources on our intranet.

It was great to welcome board members from NHS England to our hospitals today. 💙

They met some of our brilliant colleagues and took a look around our state-of-the-art Barn Theatres and what will be our new Endoscopy Unit at Poole, and at RBH visited our Maternity, ED and Critical Care Departments and got a sneak peek at our new Same Day Emergency Care, Surgical Admissions Unit and new Oncology wards.

Thank you to for giving a warm welcome and speaking passionately about the care we provide for the communities we serve.

📢 We're inviting you to give your views on a new MRI and CT scanning facility close to Poole Hospital, which will replace the Shaftesbury House building on Shaftesbury Road.

The modern, fit-for-purpose, scanning facility will enable more patients to be seen sooner, helping reduce waiting times for scans.

Two events have been planned to showcase the design options for the facility and for the public and staff to give their feedback on the appearance of the building:
- Wednesday 11 February, 5-7pm - Poole Hospital Education Centre
- Thursday 12 February, 11.30am-1.30pm - Poole Hospital Dome - opposite Boots

Those unable to attend and wanting to find out about the plans are invited to email uhd.consultation.poolescanners@nhs.net.

We look forward to hearing from you about this exciting proposal. You can find out more about these proposals, including FAQs, here: https://www.uhd.nhs.uk/news/latest-news-list/188-2026/2420-hospital-trust-seeks-feedback-on-new-scanning-facility-in-poole

Our Story

We are University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. Based on the south coast of England, the trust serves a population of more than 800,000 people, reaching as far as Purbeck, the New Forest and South Wiltshire, and collectively employing more than 9,000 members of staff.

Our trust is comprised of three hospitals; the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Poole Hospital and Christchurch Hospital, which merged on 1 October 2020, creating a new organisation. This will provide huge opportunities and benefits to the way we deliver patient care in the future and will lead to better outcomes, improved quality and more efficient service delivery.

Within UHD we pride ourselves on the delivery of safe and high quality care. Every single person working within this organisation makes a difference to the quality of care provided. We have a number of exciting developments due to take place over the next few years, coupled with an ambitious transformation agenda. The Royal Bournemouth Hospital will become the major emergency hospital and Poole Hospital will become the major planned hospital, alongside other services provided for east Dorset. Christchurch Hospital incorporates the Day Hospital which provides rehabilitation for our older population, the Macmillan Unit which provides specialist palliative care, rheumatology, and dermatology.
