We are happy to announce that we have achieved UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Stage 1 Accreditation!

Rachael Dene, Maternity Infant Feeding Lead said: “This accomplishment has been made possible by all the Maternity team's hard work and dedication to families and their wellbeing. We have established a robust infant feeding training program which has received great feedback from our staff. We will continue to work together to improve our collective practices and strive to provide the best care to our community and beyond. We are unbelievably proud of this achievement”

Industrial action by resident doctors will take place between from Tuesday 7 April until Monday 13 April.

While we hope for a resolution to this national dispute as soon as possible, we are continuing to prepare to provide safe care to our local community.

If you are due to have an appointment during this time, please assume your appointment is still happening, unless you hear otherwise from us.

Our Emergency Departments will still be running and please help us by choosing the right services for your needs by calling 111 if appropriate.

Are you tick aware?

Spring is the time of year when ticks become increasingly active, and UKHSA is advising people spending time in the outdoors, including farm visits, woodland walks and green spaces, to be tick aware.

If you develop a rash or feel unwell within a few weeks of being bitten by a tick, contact your GP or call NHS 111 promptly.

2 April marks Autism Awareness Day, and a big thank you to all the colleagues, patients, and visitors who stopped by our information stands at RBH and Poole Hospital. A huge thank you as well to Becky, one of UHD's Learning Disability and Neurodiversity Practitioners, and Tessa, UHD's Neurodiverse Staff Network Lead, for organising the stands. Alongside sharing valuable information and resources, they offered an immersive escape‑room‑style experience that gave a glimpse into how everyday situations can feel for autistic and neurodivergent people. These are just one of the many ways we strive to make UHD inclusive as possible. 💛

Our Story

We are University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. Based on the south coast of England, the trust serves a population of more than 800,000 people, reaching as far as Purbeck, the New Forest and South Wiltshire, and collectively employing more than 9,000 members of staff.

Our trust is comprised of three hospitals; the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Poole Hospital and Christchurch Hospital, which merged on 1 October 2020, creating a new organisation. This will provide huge opportunities and benefits to the way we deliver patient care in the future and will lead to better outcomes, improved quality and more efficient service delivery.

Within UHD we pride ourselves on the delivery of safe and high quality care. Every single person working within this organisation makes a difference to the quality of care provided. We have a number of exciting developments due to take place over the next few years, coupled with an ambitious transformation agenda. The Royal Bournemouth Hospital will become the major emergency hospital and Poole Hospital will become the major planned hospital, alongside other services provided for east Dorset. Christchurch Hospital incorporates the Day Hospital which provides rehabilitation for our older population, the Macmillan Unit which provides specialist palliative care, rheumatology, and dermatology.
