On Sunday, a new emergency back-up generator was installed at our Royal Bournemouth Hospital site. πŸ—οΈ

Weighing around 50 tonnes and capable of generating 2.2MVA of power (enough to supply around 1,100 homes), this impressive piece of kit will provide essential support to the new Coast Building and enhance the resilience of our existing systems.

A huge thank you to all the teams involved in making this happen safely and efficiently.

We are to celebrate the graduation of our UHD RNDAs (Resident Nursing Degree Apprenticeships) from Southampton Solent University.

This talented group of individuals began their journey with us as nursing associates and through immense dedication, resilience and hard work - they are now qualified as registered nurses.

Big congratulations to all! πŸ‘πŸŽ“

It was a vibrant mix of dancing, singing, presentations, performances, poetry, fashion, and food - all celebrating what makes us unique and different in our own special ways.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in making this a fantastic event, and to our University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity for your support! πŸ‘πŸŽ΅βœ¨

Our Dementia and Delirium Team recently had another lovely music session with CODA. Everyone enjoyed playing musical instruments and using their own connection to music to write songs. 🎡

CODA visits twice a month, offering music and art therapy sessions that bring joy, creativity, and connection to our patients.

We also had a fantastic clay activity with local artist Mahtab, where we all gathered around and explored our creativity through hands-on sculpting. 🎨

Thank you to our Dementia and Delirium Team for always going above and beyond to create these lovely experiences for our patients. πŸ’™

A big thank you to the wonderful Avril and Jeremy, who last month kindly took the Hope Bell from our Chemotherapy Day Unit to be repaired.

While the bell was away, we were incredibly touched by the support of St James' Primary Academy School, who kindly lent us their handheld school bell. πŸ””

It's so lovely seeing kindness in action - just one of the many things that make us so proud of our UHD community! πŸ’›

It's always a privilege to attend Bournemouth University's Faculty of Health and Social Sciences Awards, celebrating the achievements of multi-professional learners at BU.

Each year, we proudly sponsor an award for a BU student nurse on placement with us at UHD and this year, we were also delighted to sponsor an award for a BU student midwife.

A huge congratulations to Mia Eyles, winner of the UHD Nurse Award, and Julia Januszweska, winner of the UHD Midwife Award. Both have shown exceptional patient care and outstanding practice - well done to all! πŸ‘

Our Story

We are University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. Based on the south coast of England, the trust serves a population of more than 800,000 people, reaching as far as Purbeck, the New Forest and South Wiltshire, and collectively employing more than 9,000 members of staff.

Our trust is comprised of three hospitals; the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Poole Hospital and Christchurch Hospital, which merged on 1 October 2020, creating a new organisation. This will provide huge opportunities and benefits to the way we deliver patient care in the future and will lead to better outcomes, improved quality and more efficient service delivery.

Within UHD we pride ourselves on the delivery of safe and high quality care. Every single person working within this organisation makes a difference to the quality of care provided. We have a number of exciting developments due to take place over the next few years, coupled with an ambitious transformation agenda. The Royal Bournemouth Hospital will become the major emergency hospital and Poole Hospital will become the major planned hospital, alongside other services provided for east Dorset. Christchurch Hospital incorporates the Day Hospital which provides rehabilitation for our older population, the Macmillan Unit which provides specialist palliative care, rheumatology, and dermatology.
