I discovered yoga in 2016 when my hectic lifestyle simply became overwhelming. I was balancing being a mum to two small children, maintaining a loving relationship with my partner & working full-time in a 19 year Corporate career as well as desperately trying to not lose my fun, outgoing personality & make time for my incredible family & friends. I was always busy, always rushing, always late & starting to feel that I was failing at it all.
I have consistently made time for physical exercise but chose to run rather than walk & would much rather have been in the gym for 30 minute HIIT sessions than spending 90 minutes in a yoga class. I never gave myself permission to slow it down, there was so much I needed to fit in!
Until one day I couldn’t carry on, I was physically & mentally exhausted & so I signed up for a beginners yoga course. What did I have to lose? Gradually I started to immerse myself in the true wonder that is yoga. It has calmed me down more than I could ever have imagined, it has allowed me to unite deeper with my loved ones, realise what self-care is & recognise what is truly important in my life.
I left my Corporate role 2 years ago, spending a year connecting with myself, for once not rushing into any immediate decisions. We made the amazing choice to go backpacking as a family around Sri Lanka & not long after our return I booked my yoga teacher training. I spent 3 weeks under the outstanding guidance of Vidya Heisel at Frog Lotus Yoga in Suryalila, Spain completing my 200 hours of Vinyasa Flow training.
My aim is to share my love of yoga with anyone that would like to experience it or is simply curious, I’d like to break down those barriers that yoga is not about touching your toes or being able to wrap your foot around your head(!) it’s not about what we look like or what we wear. Yoga has no judgement, it’s yet another one of the things I love about it. Yoga is a constant journey, there is always something to learn and it gives back so much more than what you put into it.
My teaching style starts with a gentle pranayama or breathing exercise, to ground ourselves & unite our mind & body within the space of our mat, we warm up each major joint of the body before moving into standing & subsequent floor sequences, ensuring we take each posture in our time listening to our bodies & not pushing beyond our capabilities, I will always guide the breath in & out of every posture & enjoy teaching to music. We end our practice with a restful guided Savasana where we have the chance to lie on our mat & just be beautifully present.
