In the company of a local historian, learn about the part that Eagle House played in the recuperation of the suffragettes and, a walk through St Catherine’s Valley will illustrate how Batheaston is still the perfect restorative place. Bring a snack.

Just found this wonderful postcard from 13 year old Blanche Leary who in April 1904 had just started at Grosvenor College for Girls, Bath, to her friend 'Fatty' Poulain. Blanche is very homesick and does not like the school! Augustine Poulain, also 13 in 1904, lived at the very fancy Haven Hotel, Parkstone, owned by her father, Eugene, and home of Italian inventor, Guglielmo Marconi, who carried out his experiments into wireless telegraphy at the hotel. Blanche married soldier, Frederick Birmingham in 1916 and was widowed just 7 years later due to Fred's war related injuries.
