My goal is two walks a day with three customers per walk (Hugo made 4 on first one!)

Today almost 6 months on is the first time Iā€™ve had that!! Super proud of myself. Also got three new customers to meet this week and on board. Iā€™m so happy itā€™s the best risk I ever took starting this business and finding my passion!

Get to know me behind the business! Hi Iā€™m Kelly owner of sparkle and stride. Hereā€™s 5 facts about me to get to know me a little better:
1. Hugo is my dog heā€™s a chihuahua pug cross and often is out on walks with me. I also have a cat called Smudge who is a crap cat as we affectionately describe him but my emotional support animal and love him dearly!
2. I love reading books and read about 40 books a year. I am a mood reader last year I read a lot of fantasy and thriller. My favourite books are the forth wing series. Still chasing another book that gripped me and had my emotions the way that did!
3. I have two kids so busy as a mum! H is 4 next month and P is 2. One of the reasons I started this job is because it means I can still be there for every pick up and drop off.
4. Before being a mum I worked for 10 years for the biggest veterinary lab and diagnostic company in the world. Iā€™ve also worked in veterinary supplements and briefly as a receptionist in a vets but it was too hard emotionally I got too upset with the sad cases.
5. My dream is to become qualified as a dog trainer/behaviourist as well and offer it all! I love dogs and working with them and even just teaching a dog a trick on a walk gives me such a thrill I love it! Working with the puppies as they grow and being involved in their learning is one of my favourite things to do.

šŸ’•šŸ¾PLEASE SHARE THIS POST FOR ME AS ITS SO IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER AND NEW PET OWNERS MAY NOT THINK OF THESE THINGS!!! šŸ¾šŸ’•

Whether looking at my business or anyone elseā€™s please consider the following:

1. DO NOT DECIDE ON PRICE! Pricing varies hugely but itā€™s important to look at value for money. I am not the cheapest but I feel I offer a premium service and with the extras you get from me I feel I am worth my cost.

As an extra note here. Please consider our additional business costs you donā€™t think about. Insurance, vehicle costs, fuel, time travelled to pick up and drop off and admin time.

2. CHECK THE PAPERWORK: this industry is not regulated and so technically you donā€™t need anything. However to trust someone with your animals and access to your house I strongly recommend checking this. I have advanced DBS check, pet and human first aid training and full pet business insurance. I also complete a contract and pet information form so you and I are protected and covered and have set terms from the beginning.

3. ALWAYS DO A MEET AND GREET BEFORE BOOKING. I do a meet and greet with every owner and pet to check I am happy and that I am a good fit for your needs and you are happy with using me and my services. It always shocks me when I see a post asking for a sitter for the next day not considering pre meeting, checking credentials etc. I would not trust my dog with just anybody heā€™s my baby I need to now he is safe.

4. EXPERIENCE: Everyone can have different experience with pets and knowledge so important to check that the person is equipped and capable. So I have 10 years vet industry experience and my family are cats protection fosterers. I am experienced with all animals. I also wouldnā€™t take on a husky for example with my experience I know itā€™s more dog than I can safely handle on a lead to walk and would likely pull me over!!!

5.COMMUNICATION: this is a big one!! Agree how you will communicate. I speak to all my clients most days on whatā€™s app. I send videos and pics but I also use an app to track my bookings which sends you a reminder of bookings and I complete a written report for each visit to also give you a paper trail of visits as well as peace of mind.

6. IS YOUR DOG SUITED TO THE WALK: I have dogs big and small young and old I check I walk the same requirements and fits together. Some dogs need a big fast 2.5 mile walk others may be older and want a quiet sniffy walk. I also walk max 3 dogs at a time (4 if I add my dog and know the others well).
